You do not say how you got an estimate of $1200---where did that amount come from? We cannot see your tax return so we do not know how much your refund should have been. We have no access to your information. Did you check all of the amounts you entered from your W-2's and any 1099's to be sure they were entered correctly? You cannot "re-do" your tax return unless there is an actual mistake --- and then you can prepare an amended return to fix the mistake.
Some things to be aware of---tax laws changed for 2022. The child tax credit is less, the childcare credit is less and is non-refundable, the earned income credit is less, there was no charity deduction for $300 per spouse on line 10 like there was for 2021. There were no recovery rebate credits for 2022. Many people got lower refunds for 2022.
Print out a copies of your 2021 and 2022 returns and compare them side by side, line by line to see what was different.
Please see this Help Article for possible reasons as to why your refund was less than expected.
If you would like to speak with someone regarding your refund, you will need to contact the IRS. Please see How do I contact the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)? for information, including the IRS phone number and hours of operation. You may want to try calling early in the morning since they get busier throughout the day.
How I got the estimate is when I use the estimate calculator from Credit Karma for my tax refund. At first I was upset but still did my taxes but now I just want to make sure if I did them right.
Community is a public forum, therefore, we do not have access to your personal account information and are unable to assist you with determining why your refund was lower. Please reach out to the IRS for assistance with your refund. Their contact information is provided above by MoniqueLO.
