Finally - someone that knew what the hell they were talking about - THANK YOU!!!!
I found the place to enter, and entered the new IP PIN received in the mail from the IRS, but was still rejected. Now what? The TurboTax efile PIN number is necessarily different, as it doesn't allow for 6 digits. Advise please!
Thank you all. I am good now.
You may be entering it under the 5 Digit Pin section (also known as the signature ID) area instead of in the IP PIN area which is for the 6 digit IRS issued number.
Please see how do I add or remove my 6-digit IP PIN for steps on your IRS issued number.
No -- I am entering it in the 6-digit IP PIN place that you get to via 'Other Tax Situations' -- but still got rejected.
Also, if I cannot resolve and decide to mail the taxes in, because we are so close to deadline, I presume I will have to mail the State return as well -- it was rejected because the Fed was. But I don't want to do that if the state is somehow going to re-file itself.....? Is there a way to retract the efile for state if rejected? Or does the reject do that automatically?
@klogue2 If the federal tax return is not being e-filed then the state tax return cannot be e-filed. The federal and state tax return will have to be printed, signed, dated and mailed.
See this TurboTax support FAQ for how to print and mail the tax returns - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/printers-printing/print-mail-return-turb...
I LITERALLY HATE TURBO TAX FOR MAKING THIS PROCESS SO DIFFICULT. EVERY YEAR I HAVE TO SPEND HOURS TRYING TO FIRGURE OUT HOW TO ENTER MY IP PIN ON THE DESKTOP VERSION. WHY?????? WHY?????? WHY TURBO TAX DO YOU MAKE THIS SOOOOOOO DIFFICULT? TERRIBLE SOFTWARE.
This answer is terrible. There is no path: Federal>Other Tax Situations>Other Return Info>Identity Protection PIN in the desktop version. Where in the hell do you enter the IP PIN on the desktop version? Dammit!!!!
In TurboTax Desktop Home & Business, please follow these steps to enter your IP PIN:
@gr8day2play If you have the Home & Business Desktop program then whenever you see to go to Federal, you go to Personal. The Federal tab has been broken out into Business tab & Personal tab.
You are right! next year I am going with another service.
I had no trouble finding the place to enter when I entered IP PIN in the search -- (downloaded Desktop Deluxe version). And I was able to resolve the issue I had -- and resubmit and both returns were then accepted.
NOWHERE in the desktop version search area does it explain how to find the place to put in the IP PIN. What I should say, is that the instructions provided are WRONG. They say to select Federal then Other Tax Situations then you will see where to input the IP PIN. The problem is that there is no “Federal” menu item or tab on the desktop version. Other instructions I found say to search “IP PIN” using the SEARCH function in the desktop version, then click “Jump to” when the results appear, but no “Jump to” link presents itself after searching on “IP PIN.” So, the instructions from Turbo Tax are all but useless. But, I opened my 2024 return and, after a few hours of searching around, I accidentally came across it. I clicked on the tab that says “PERSONAL” then saw a link which says “Other Tax Situations”. Assuming it was under “Other Tax Situations” as in the wrong instructions, I clicked on it and scrolled down and found it in the section titled “Other Return Info” which says “Identity Protection PIN” and clicked on “Start” to the right of it. When you click on “Start”, you encounter a question that asks “Did anyone in your family get an Identity Protection PIN from the IRS for this year’s taxes?” You then click “Yes” as the answer to that question and it takes you to all of the people listed as the filers and dependents in your return. You click “Add” for each one you want to enter.
Sorry you had trouble. The Home and Business Edition is different from all other editions of the TurboTax product. Like you say, it does not have a Federal Taxes tab. Instead, it divides all the Federal items into Personal and Business tabs. So you are correct that in Home and Business for an IP PIN navigation the instructions would start with the Personal tab instead of Federal.
