Your repayment in tax year 2021 will be reported on Form 8915-F. Form 8915-E was for the distribution and repayment during 2020. Form 8915-F is still in draft form and will not be available until mid-March.
How do I get the early filer discount on TurboTax if I can't file because I'm waiting for form 8915-F?

You can pay for the TurboTax account fee for the online edition you are currently using to lock in the price.
To pay the TurboTax online account fees by credit card, without completing the 2021 return at this time, click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen. Then click on Print Center. Then click on Print, save or preview this year's return. On the next page, to pay by credit card, click Pay Now. The next screen will show a review of your Fees, click on Continue. Complete the next screen to pay by credit card and click Continue.
The form was put out in final form at the beginning of February. The rest of us are just waiting for it to be input into the software. It didn't change from the draft form which was available for months before then.
Why does it take so long for the 8915-F to be available on TurboTax, but others offer it now?
@ryaneharris01 - I'm not really sure there are too many viable choices of others that offer it now. HR Block found it so difficult to implement they charge a hefty upcharge for a human to fill it out and file it for you. The government sponsored website is only free if your income is below a certain amount and is really not suitable for most people with higher complexity situations.
So you have TurboTax, which should have the form soon. They say no later than 03/31/2022, but last year it came out on 02/26/2022. I bet we see it next week.
They make 300 bucks or so off providing tax professionals to complete it for us so I see their incentive to keep dragging this out. HR Block is doing the same thing so we will try this avenue instead.

HR Block is doing the same thing so we will try another free avenue instead. I truly think they are taking their time on uploading it for customer use because of the financial gains.
The customer service from Turbo Tax is less than stellar based on my experience today. I called to get help on amending my 2020 tax return related to repayment of an early withdrawal from an IRA in 2020 but repaid in 2021. The first person I spoke with could not help me even after she remoted into my computer. She transferred me to Vernon who proceeded to tell me that they have been instructed to only help customers on their 2021 tax returns. He informed me that I could pay someone at Turbo Tax to help me with my amended return. Seriously?? Then Vernon told me that he could not help me but is required to send me a link to the community forum as this is a DIY. I called back and spoke with another representative at Turbo Tax and she couldn't help me either and by the way, Turbo Tax is able to electronically file amended returns at this point. I realize that COVID has been a challenge for many and numerous delays in form availability, but very disappointed in the lack of customer service giving consistent answers and willingness to help.

You cannot do that on an amended 2020 tax return. Any money returned in 2021 can only be reported on your 2021 tax return with form 8915-F when that form becomes available.
You can only report money repaid in 2020 on a 2020 tax return.
I paid the federal tax on the distribution in 2020 so why would I not want to amend 2020 based on everything that I have read.
@macuser_22 - not sure on that. The actual IRS FAQ says you CAN go back and amend after repayment. So there is amending a return allowed, but you need to make sure for YOUR situation.
@Ccorrente I get the frustration, but really they are here to help you navigate the software not do your taxes. I used a CPA last year AFTER I paid TurboTax and it wouldn't do what I needed.
That's just the nature of the tax filing system in the context of DIY vs people that make a living doing it.
That’s what I need to know . I didn’t get a 1099 this year so I’m thinking we will use the one from last year
I haven’t received another 1099 this year so I’m assuming we will use the one from last year. It’s frustrating not knowing though .
