My parents claimed me on their 2018 taxes. They have not filed their 2019 taxes yet. I am disabled on SSD. (not SSI) I filled out the non filer portal and said no one can claim me, but I'm still not eligible because the IRS referred to my parents 2018 taxes. I said no one can claim me but they still rejected me. Not sure what to do. Calling my Senator tomorrow.
If my parents claimed me as a dependent in 2018, I filed independently for 2019 on March 27 (I’ve already received my federal return), but my parents haven’t yet filed their 2019, am I eligible? I did not receive the first round of checks.
@Anonymous I am on the same boat! Must people are saying we will because they will take out info from 2019 so fingers crossed!
Soo if we didn’t get it this week are we still possibly holding out until we get ours? It was that all the ones they are sending?
What if I was claimed as a dependent in 2018, but I will not be claimed as a dependent in 2019 and I have not filed my 2019 taxes yet?
The checks have already been deposited. If I file my 2019 taxes, can I still get my check?
@CatinaT1
My mom claimed me as a dependent for 2018. My mom said she wasn’t going to claim me for 2019 since I moved out. I work for living arrangements but didn’t make enough to file. However, she still didn’t file for 2019 and then she got her stimulus check this Wednesday... will that affect my non filers status if she claimed me as a dependent in 2018
I have a similar question. I just filed my 2019 taxes today and made sure that my parents are not claiming me as a dependent. Will I still get the stimulus? Also my tax return is looking much more than last years. Could that be the $1200 credit added to it already ?
That doesn’t make sense. My friend who is 21 and has attended school last semester just got his stimulus check
I have the exact same situation. Let me know if you get your check or what happens!
The answer is no it won't effect you but you need to file even though you didn't make enough please visit IRS.GOV for non filers
The $1200 for individuals is a separate stimulus check and is not part of your tax filing process. so if you just filed today then be patient. it may take weeks for the government to sort out. I would wait until your tax filing is accepted and complete, and then visit irs.gov and click on "get coronavirus relief".
Brittbam , YES you should be fine keep in mind that millions of checks are going out with the goal of getting them to the most needy first. viit irs.gov for more information
Checks that are mailed will take longer than direct deposit. My guess is a couple of weeks. Please visit IRS.GOV to help track your stimulus check. Follow the link to "get coronavirusm tax relief" then "check your payment status". and finally "get my payment" Have your 2019 tax filing ready to answer a few questions and be patient if possible.
@jksonza yes you need to file a 2019 return to become eligible for the stimulus payment. You should be sure that you do not indicate that you "Can be claimed on someone else's return". Stimulus checks will continue to be issued through the end of the year.
To Oziozcan: Checks that need to be mailed will take longer. My guess is a couple to a few weeks. You can visit IRS.GOV and check you status. Click on "get coronavirus tax relief" then "check your payment status" and the "get my payment". Have your 2019 tax file ready if needed and good luck.
