I am unable to e-file because i can't fix this . W2 box 14. has Pretax / dollar amount / no category - intuit requiring me to enter category but all are for state workers, I am not a state worker - entering "other" from the drop down does not work.

Box 14 on Form W2 is used by employers to report anything that doesn't go anywhere else on the form. If none of the categories match your entry, select Other (not classified). If that is what you are doing and it is not working, you should try deleting your W2 and then re-enter the information.
Here are the steps to delete your Form W2:

Note that in another thread on this problem, someone tried this solution (deleting the W2)
and it did not work. So I don't have much faith that this will work. Also note that two people
spent hours on the phone with INTUIT help, and they could not resolve the problem.
Looks like Turbo Tax has a software problem that they have not corrected. I looked thru
that stream because I am having the same problem.
I entered w2 manually, still wouldn't accept "other" , Re entered and did not put PRETAX" from first column - that worked.
e file still not available because it still will not allow other for pretax
You can enter anything into the Box 14 description field. Enter the description and the amount, then scroll to click on Continue. On the next screen, select Other - Unclassified from the drop down menu in the Category field. You have to scroll to the bottom of the list. @Trumans
Yeah, I have selected other for PRETAX, however, I am getting an error message saying that NYS will not accept other for efiling and I can not advance
I recall seeing a number of posts that said that "PRE TAX" (with a space) worked.
I tried your solution and it WORKED. Talk about deficient coding in TT.
I tried several of the other solutions mentioned and they did not work.
This is obviously the easiest solution or "best answer".
It also works if you just skip this line altogether that someone else
posted. But this changes what the W2 says, which is being sent to
the IRS. Not sure that's a good thing.
