Turbotax says the IRS is still working on the Depreciation and Amortization area (form 4562) for 2021, but their form availability says they are available. I'm stuck.

It is not factually accurate to say this problem is only arising on imported cases.  I have been using the online TurboTax for 8+ years without incident.  It's always been in your systems.

That being said, I started over from scratch with a new email and everything worked fine, including the sales.  It took a long time, but since TurboTax could offer no other solution, this was all I could do.

I request that your technicians actually look into this.  Clearly, I'm not the only one this happened to and it is a total block of a problem.  Please fix it for future years.

I have the same issue.  I have used the online version of TT since 2015.  I manually entered in the depreciation information for my rental condo in 2015.  Since then, TT has imported my info from previous year return and everything has worked fine, until this year.  Now I get the under construction message and I cant enter the depreciation information.  When you suggest we try doing it without importing the previous years information, what do you mean we should do.  Start over with a different email address like ryan-engen did.  I'd rather not do that if possible.  Is there a way to make the tool stop importing info for just the rental, or something like that?

I would appreciate it if a Turbo Tax specialist would address my questions please.

This is completely UNACCEPTABLE Turbo tax! it is now 3/25/2022 and you have no solution to an issue identified and clearly presented to you by multiple users.  how can you be charging for this tax package when the depreciation and amortization section "UNDER CONSTRUCTION"?????????

I can not file an extension or I will lose considerable new jersey medical tax credits.

Please respond ASAP

This has to get fixed pronto,   it does not work, I paid extra for turbotax premier 2021 and cannot do any depreciation.    Also broken was the details for depreciating an auto related to schedule e (but that form allowed manual entry - where 4562 does not allow any entry and is quite complex.   When will you have this fixed (if not very soon, how do I request a refund).

Thank You

Hi Everyone,

I realized that this problem was happening to me only if I had entries in the Rental property section and saved them and exited that section, and then tried to go back to modify them.  I would get stuck at the "Depreciation and Amortization Under Construction" notice and would not be allowed to go any further.

As an experiment, I started a new return (under my wife's email address) where the only income source I identified in the opening questions was a rental property.  This allowed me to quickly get to that section and see if I entered the data fresh, would it work.  It did work!.  So, going back to my actual return, I was able to get around the issue by going to the Federal Wages & Income page, hit Edit/Add on the Rental Properties and Royalties (Sch E) section, then delete completely the rental property.  I then started over on it by going to the Wages & Income page and selecting Add More Income button, then under the Rental, Royalties, and Farm section, hit the Revisit button for the Rental Properties and Royalties (Sch E) option.  Then enter the data again for the rental property.  Make sure you don't Save and exit the section until you have completed it properly, otherwise when you go back to make further changes, you will hit the issue again.  Doing this, I was able to redo the Rental property on my return without losing all the other info I had input for the remainder of my return, which is real complex.  Hopefully this will work for you.

I'm still quite frustrated and angry that TT would let this problem linger for so many filers even though they have known about this problem for at least a month.  They told me I should just file an extension until they got around  to fixing this issue, which I find unacceptable.

Hi - I was hopeful that the approach used by campsteraz would work for me but it did not.

When I delete an existing property - and went back in and immediately attempt to add depreciation - I still get the same error "You've done a great job starting you taxes early but the IRS is still working on finishing up the depreciation and amortization area (Form 4562).   And I'm guessing that my historical amortization would also be lost.

So, yesterday I opened up a new incident and while sharing my error, Intuit did not have any options for fixing it and also suggested I file a request for a late return.    Well I'm not going to file late, but I will continue to escalate and perhaps even post more information so others don't invest in this software if it is not fixed by the end of next week.

That said, I've never had problems with the software, and expected NOT to have problems this year, but apparently the quality of the product has diminished.

Asking others, has anyone found a software package that can take the turbotax info from a prior year so that I can just move to a different tax software solution?  That may be one option, else I will have to ask for a refund and go to the nearest tax accountant to complete my taxes on time as it doesn't seem that Intuit has put much effort into resolving this issue.

Adding my name to this group of frustrated customers.  It's completely unacceptable for the software to remain with this bug for a core function.  I also spent time with 2 customer support specialists with no remedy.  I requested to switch from desktop to online turbotax, but eventually the customer specialist dropped the call.   Very dissatisfied customer.

This is still not fixed.  This will be my last time using TurboTax.  I don't trust a computer program anymore. I would rather pay more, but know that my tax return is accurate.

+1 frustrated long-time customer who will be looking for another software next year.

+ Another frustrated user. I just started on my taxes with Turbotax Premier (Desktop/Windows) and ran into this issue. Its April 2nd, only 2 weeks before deadline and TT has not figured out the fix that so many users are experiencing.  Hope they can put some priority on resolving this isuse.

I will definitely look for alternatives to Turbotax next year.

I've had about 5 calls with customer support.  It's been frustrating. Several times I had to convince the support staff that this was a bug in the software and not an issue with IRS not releasing a form.  One customer support person said she had 3 calls on this issue.  She did help me find a work around.   In several cases, customer support dropped the call (due to technical issues).

This is for TurboTax desktop (Mac OS in my case).

I have a rental property that was sold in 2021.  TT has a record of this property and the associated depreciating assets.  I can get past the error message..."IRS is still working on the Depreciation..."  by the following:

1. Go into forms and "remove form" Asset Wks (home).   Your's may not be named "home".  Remove form by CMD-Del (for Mac OS), or by using the Menu dropdown 'Forms', 'Remove From".  For some reason, only removing the Asset Wks (home) works.  Removing the Asset Wks for the improvements doesn't work.

2. Go back to easy step for the Rental Summary and try "Sale of Property / Depreciation".  This should get you past the error.

3.  Go to your asset summary and update your improvements.  In my case I sold them with the property.  Update all your assets.

4.  Go back to the summary and "Add an Asset".  You'll need to re-enter your rental property and in my case the sale information for selling the property.

5.  This step will generate all the appropriate home sale forms, like 4979, Sched D, Unrecap 1250, etc.

6.  Once you are complete and try to view the depreciation details in EasyStep, you'll get the error message again, "IRS is still working on the Depreciation..." and won't be able to edit your assets, but now you should have all you need to complete a property sale entry.  You can make changes directly in most case in the forms for each asset, etc.

I hope this is helpful.  Took me many hours to get this far!

Good luck.
