The problem with this is that the IRS computer is going to look for that 1099misc. They will send you a letter adjusting your taxes for this missing 1099.
I don't think this will stop the IRS computers from tagging the missing 1099misc. form. I think it best to wait for TurboTax to fix this error.
The problem with issuing a 1099-nec, instead of a 1099-misc, is that box 3 is going to trigger self employment tax, and I will file my taxes incorrectly. Can we please just get this issue fixed instead of work-arounds that introduce tax errors?
The updated is having a problem. I dint have the problem last weekend. I got the the problem today (2/25/23) and yesterday. The 1099-MISC form wont be included in the (final) file if I ignore it. So it got be fixed.
Is Intuit Turbo tax going to fix this bug? I need to efile my tax return by this weekend.
There seem to be 2 completely different situations in this thread, with some users:
In the first scenario, the form is generating an error message referencing the MWP box being checked when it isn't. This IS currently being addressed. @wshenhz
You can either wait until it is fully resolved OR you can use the 1099-NEC workaround. The income should have been reported on a 1099-NEC and it will be reported in the same place as if you entered it as a 1099-MISC. The IRS will see the amount on Line 1 of Schedule C whether it is a 1099-MISC or 1099-NEC; both forms go to the same line. See the Schedule C image below. @cookiejp @tuanojc
In the 2nd scenario, your income should not be linked to any Schedule C, so the error message does not apply. If the income is not self-employment, you should choose the correct box on the 'uncommon situations' question. If you choose 'None of these Apply', you will get 3 follow-up questions. How you answer those questions will determine whether TurboTax puts the income on Schedule C (business income w/ SE tax) or on the Other Income line (no SE tax). The 3 follow-up questions should be answered as follows if the income is NOT self-employment:
Answering the above 3 questions any other way indicates the income is Self-Employment and it will be linked to a Schedule C with the issue in scenario #1. Self-Employment tax is applied to all income on Schedule C
@KyleP1 - What is the income in box 3 for? How did you answer the ''Do any of these uncommon situations apply?'' question? See scenario #2 - the error is only affecting those reporting Self-Employment income on Schedule C.
Is my income from self-employment?
This sounds useful but I am not sure how to locate "conversion error checking in the e-file center" in order to disable it.
Here’s a link to a previous post about turning off error checking:
I was able to fix by clicking and un-clicking the button for medical waiver payments.
The bug also seems to be in Turbotax Home and Business (desktop) edition.
I have 2022 Home and Business Download and now I AM getting this error
its having a linking problem from 1099 misc income to schedule C and giving this MWP error at the same time its happening
TT needs to fix this asap its on their end
no one should have to do a workaround for an obvious software error. wtf man. the state of software in 2023 is worst I have ever seen. Its freaking tax season man
The area in the red box does not exist on my 1099-MISC worksheet.
The error also occurs with a link to schedule F. It was introduced in the update I did on Saturday (2/25). The 1099 misc should be and is linked to schedule F. TT flags it as an error. I found the MWP box on the 1099 misc and it IS NOT checked.
This issue is beeing looked into. You can delete the 1099-MISC and enter your income as Other Farm Income to be able to proceed with filing your return since you are not required to report your 1099-MISC specifically.
To do this in TurboTax Home & Business you can follow these steps:
See Why am I getting an error to be updated on the status.
@DawnC Thank you, your workaround worked. We know its not your fault, its too bad that using the tax software sometimes is harder than just doing taxes by hand due to all the programming bugs! This will be my last year using TurboTax. Adios amigos!
