TT 2025 Desktop Carryover Worksheet Bug?

In TT Desktop Home & Business 2025, the 2024 State Estimate Information that gets imported when transferring from my 2024 taxes reports the incorrect amount.

When determining the amount for box (c) of "Estimated Paid After 12/31" in the section "2024 State Estimate Information", it appears to have used the total estimated 2024 state taxes, as opposed to only the amount paid after 12/31.

It's easy to adjust the amount on the carryover worksheet once it's determined the amount is incorrect. However, most people will likely not recognize the incorrect amount is imported and this likely impacts Schedule A.

TT 2025 Desktop Carryover Worksheet Bug?

I encountered this bug as well when reviewing my anticipated 2025 Schedule A, then remembered that yesterday I had seen your post about the same thing.  This early in the season we'll just have to wait and see how long it takes to get fixed.  Of course you and I have already made the correction to our files, but it could affect others who are trying to target the $40,000 SALT limit by adjusting estimated tax payments made before the end of 2025.

And don’t forget if and when they do update the program you might need to change your entries if you had adjusted them or overrode them etc.

Good thing to check, although I suspect this issue is confined to the transfer process.

I'll check in a couple weeks to see if it's corrected and will report back.

TT 2025 Desktop Carryover Worksheet Bug?

I applied updates this morning and was interested to see if this had been corrected. I went to the Federal Carryover Worksheet and removed my override under 2024 States Estimates Information. Now there is no entry. Is there a way to revert to the carryover data for that data entry without starting the return over?

Or can the transfer data from last year be run again without upsetting all the preliminary data entries I have on the rest of the return? I am certain this one data field is the only one that I've since modified.

Noted that I have no idea if the bug was fixed or not, so the question could be moot.

Never mind. I tested this using a new return and found that the bug has not been corrected as if 2025.47.5 (Nov 13, 2025).

And it appears that I'll have to leave the override in place all the way through to filing as there is no way to retrigger a transfer from last year without starting over (as far as I can tell).

1)  There are so many software and form updates needed between now and the end of January, that I "Strongly" suggest you start over with a new file in late January....after which, most of the critical bugs will have been fixed.  If you try to go with you current file, there might be some other errors that crop up that might be unfixable.

AND

2)  The software will not allow you to e-file a tax return containing any fields with overrides or marked as being estimated numbers in them.  You would only be able to print and mail-file.

Thus, only use your early prep to get an idea of what the final filing might look like.   Starting over could be a bit of a pain, but it may well be less frustrating at the time you end up filing.

Your suggestion is a good one, so let's set that aside for the moment.

Looking just at the technical aspect of the question, I do not believe that correcting entries on the Federal Carryover *Worksheet* is actually an override. Unlike a calculated field on a form with an override, I don't believe inputting a different value than was transferred from last year on a worksheet would prevent efiling. In retrospect, I should not have used the word "override" in my original comment.

"I do not believe that correcting entries on the Federal Carryover *Worksheet* is actually an override."

You are correct, this is not an override.  You can simply leave the corrected value in place.  Still, I normally do not begin my actual tax return until it's closer to the time I'm going to file.  I consider any file I create now as being a first pass, something to compare to when I do my actual tax return.  This allows me to catch errors where the two disagree.  The first pass gets prepared by entering estimates, then replacing estimates as I receive the actual informational forms.  The final pass for filing is one that I do from scratch after I have received all of the information needed for filing.  That doesn't happen until March because I need to wait for the arrival of a Schedule K-1 from a partnership.

It does appear that this bug was corrected in 2025.47.8.6, and further, it removed the overridden entry and replaced it with the now correct transferred value. (at least I think it did .. check for yourself, of course).

Unfortunately, after updating to 2025.47.8.6, the issue isn't resolved for me.

TT 2025 Desktop Carryover Worksheet Bug?

I agree with Jeff7 that this bug has not yet been corrected.  Upon transferring in my 2024 tax file, the present version of 2025 TurboTax is still including in the total of state estimates paid in 2025 the three estimates paid in 2024.

Click, as far as I know, TurboTax has no ability to alter any user-entered value.

You two are correct. It isn't fixed. I was misled into thinking it was fixed because the correct amount was shown on the Federal Carryover Worksheet and it was not shown as an override. That's interesting because you can mark entries on this worksheet as an override, but this one wasn't showing as an override.

I just installed Desktop Premier this morning  (12/19/2025)   And it's still transferring wrong to the carryover worksheet.   Release:  025.000.0203

_____________________________

I had $1500 of estimated State payments, only in the first 2 Quarters of 2024, and the 2025 software transferred the whole $1500 into the carryover worksheet as-if it was all after 12/31/2024.

Really getting late for TTX to fix this one.   Tons of users may never notice it.

1)  Certainly, it would be unlikely to affect folks who always end up using the Std Deduction last year and this year...but for the rest of us who regularly itemize, it's a problem.  (yeah, since I'm aware of it I can fix it directly on the carryover worksheet),

2)  Once the transfer from the 2024 file has already been done, I wonder if there is enough detail in the xfer that a later 2025 software update will fix it, or whether an entirely new file startup will be required.   i.e. if the 2025 file only has the improper total of all 2024 State estimates, and doesn't have the state estimates breakdown by date, then a later software update won't fix it in a tax file created prior to the bug fix.

3)   I Wonder if the "Online" software the the same problem.   Might be a completely different team working on that, and maybe they got it right.   If not, the problem might be more difficult for those users to correct after-the-fact.

Any Champs report this in the private area of the forum?

It does need fixing & quick action by the software developers if they aren't aware of it yet.
