You can WAIT for the electronic form to be ready and efile both at the same time ... the IRS will not start processing returns until the 23rd so you have time to wait.   Look at the charts here ... seems like that form will be ready 1/19 so waiting is a good option.

You can efile the federal alone and the state later ... but once you send the federal return the state cannot be sent until the IRS starts accepting returns ... the 23rd.

Yeah...that happens.  The state always finalizes their forms first,,,,,,then the various software companies have to get approval from the state for their versions.  That transaction is not instantaneous and can take a week or two more.

 

ANNND, TTX usually updates their software only once a week, on Wed or Thursday evenings...to get all the week's changes in at once before the start of the weekend.
