If I made under 2,000 but have a dependent that’s 2 could I get a refund of 6,000 or less

Sorry--no. The refundable additional child tax credit is not available if you did not earn at least $2500 from working. You might be able to get a very small amount of earned income credit, but realistically----is there someone else who supported you that can claim you and the children as dependents?
To help you understand more clearly:
Have you entered income from working in 2025? If not, you will not receive an income tax refund based on having dependent children.
The maximum amount of the child tax credit is now $2200 per child; the refundable “additional child tax credit” amount is $1700. In order to get that credit, you have to have income from working.
Take the amount you earned from working. Subtract $2500. Multiply the rest by 15%. That is the additional child tax credit per child that you can get—- up to the maximum of $1700 per child. If the amount you earned from working was low, you will not get the full $1700 per child.
If your child is older than 16 at the end of 2025, you do not get the CTC. But you may still get the non-refundable $500 credit for other dependents instead.
And for the Earned Income Credit—-

AND….If you have children but had little or no income, it raises the question of how you and the children were supported. There may be another tax-paying adult who can claim you and/or the children as dependents.
No but I think with me working and having a child I could get at least 4,000
@Alonareed1 Sorry---you stated that you had less than $2000 of earned income. Re-read the information provided to you. You will not get anything for child tax credit if your only income from working was less than $2000. If someone else can claim you as a dependent then you are not eligible for earned income credit. With less than $2000 of income----how were you and your child supported? You did not support yourself and a child on $2000----someone else supported you.
**bleep** just shut up cause now you in my business I’ve had other jobs dumb ass this is my most recent job I support myself and child thank ya I don’t need your help bookie
But---Please enter all of your information into a tax return and see what the results are. A refund will be shown on line 35a of your Form 1040.
You have to report ALL your income on the same tax return. You first said you only had $2,000. If you had other income you didn’t get a W2 for then you might have to enter it as self employment income.
I can do that ? What proof would I have to show
If you have income that you earned that you didn't get a W-2 for, you are self-employed.
It sounds good to be working for yourself, but it could have unforeseen consequences.
