Another few folk with the "Desktop" software, encountered the same problem, and solved it as follows:
1) Open tax return and switch to Forms Mode
2) Open the SS Benefits worksheet from the left-window ( "Social Sec" on left side)
3) When it opens in the rt-window...Delete it (selection at bottom of screen)
4) Return to the interview and re-enter the SSA-1099 area...and it should work now.
Thanks that worked
This is amazing! Does TurboTax ever read what is going on in the community? The social security window not opening under the wages and income tab was also the case last year with TurboTax 2024. The way I resolved the issue last year and this year is to go to Forms and open the ssa form. Next fill in the information in the specific items related to the SSA form you received and you are done! Now this makes me wonder whether the TurboTax executives are using TurboTax personally? If they were, the problem would have been fixed. Just a thought from my warped mind. Take Care and pass the word around.
Product does not work as suggested.
Kept selecting SS Income but not able to enter amount.
Also Lender not in search list/ unable to enter 1099 int.
When you go to enter your 1099-INT there will be two options, one to import your data and one to "type it in myself". If your lender is not on the list of financial institutions that have partnered with TurboTax then you will probably have to type the information from your 1099-INT form into the system.
You can also make a point of mentioning to your financial institution that they should partner with TurboTax the next time that you speak to them!
The suggested "Delete" at the bottom of the screen is not there. I am using a Mac.
I found it on the menu bar.
The fact that this form was already filled out and I am merely double-checking entry by entry before submitting my completed return and finding this unresolved 'bug' is very disappointing.
Now, instead of merely verifying all my prior entry, I now have to re-enter **EVERYTHING**
If I was the CEO I'd fire the folks responsible for this. Totally irresponsible to have to come here to find a user's solution and then be forced to re-enter rather than merely verify.
I am able to enter Social Security income on both Mac (Home and Business) and Windows (Deluxe) versions of TurboTax Desktop. See this help article for more information.
Please clarify if you are still experiencing a problem entering an income item in TurboTax.
@MonikaK1 As I said in my original post "The fact that this form was already filled out and I am merely double-checking entry by entry before submitting my completed return". My comment refers to double-checking my work by going through every single entry that I made from the beginning to the end of TTax in order to verify that I did not make any errors.
As others have stated, the entry form for SSA income cannot be entered once it has been completed. It jumps immediately to the section on foreign residency, skipping the page to enter SSA 1099 data. This is a serious error in the program. Of course, I can double check my work by opening 'forms' but that does not show me the hand-holding Q&A for entry.
I'm using the Mac version of Premier Desktop.
After deleting the SSA page and reentering data and continuing to the end of the entry of all items, I have saved and closed TTax. Before posting this reply, I opened TTax again and checked the SSA form. It opens *correctly* so perhaps I had some error in my prior entry which was made earlier, at least 2 version releases since then. I had to delete the form in order to be able to enter the data and allow the page to open correctly. Seems like there should have been an error instead of just skipping the page.
Anyway, all is well that ends well and I'm sorry for the rant I made in my frustration over the bad experience I was having after hours of tax data entry.
