my return has been rejected 7 times now with rejection code IND 031-04 saying spouse pin or AGI are incorrect. They are NOT! I confirmed AGI with IRS. Spent 1.5 hrs with TT. Really frustrated. Any similar?

Have you tried entering a 0 (zero) for the 2020 AGI and e-filing again?

Looking for a solution to this rejection code very frustrating.

Please first try the suggestion of inputting zero and let us know if it resolves your issue @richardmazzarella.

After 6 failed attempts with correct information, I tried zero'ing out the AGI fields for both myself and spouse (joint filers), and that worked!

For those trying to e-file, it is my personal experience with 2021 taxes that after 5 (FIVE) failed attempts in a row, you're done. The IRS computer will not accept it after the fifth failed attempt even if all the information is correct. You have no choice but to print, sign, and mail the return to the IRS.

Had this happen with a relative whom I was assisting, and the rejection message received from the IRS computer was something along the lines of (can't recall exact wording) "TO MANY ATTEMPTS. MAXIMUM REJECTS/FAILURES EXCEEDED" or something along those lines. The rejection e-mail further indicated the return would have to be mailed.

In case it helps anyone else who has left things to the last minute:

I attempted to e-file my Federal and State married-filing-jointly return on 14 October 2022.

    - Federal failed (rejection code IND 031-04) - wrong 2020 AGI or signed with wrong pin.

    - State failed due to Federal failing.

I had filed 2020 return quite late (~Dec 2021) by mail. The federal return was accepted by IRS ~July 2021. I ensured that 2020 federal return was indeed accepted using the IRS lookup. I also downloaded the 2020 federal transcript to confirm the 2020 AGI I was using was correct - it was. Nevertheless, for the my second attempt at filing 2021 returns, I followed the suggestion mentioned a few times in this thread, to use $0 as AGI. Since I was filing jointly there was only one box to enter 2020 AGI. I entered $0. The returns were accepted (within around 1 hour).
