you should be extremely vary of opening emails from sources you don't recognize.  doing so can allow malware to infect your computer.  now for the important questions.   did you efile your return? if so you should have gotten an email saying submitted?  then you would get an email saying accepted or rejected usually within 2 or 3 days. but i have never read a thread that a return was filed under a different a/c.

The email supposedly came from the Turbo Tax security team (I didn't realize this site would censor the copy-pasted email in the subject) but it was:

T u rb o T a x @ e . t u r b o t a x . i ntuit.com

Also I did not file a return this year. The email reads:

We've noticed that someone attempted to fill out a tax return using your information with a different account.

We are holding the tax return for 48 hours to give you the opportunity to verify it's yours or stop it. If we don't hear from you within 48 hours, this return will be filed in accordance with IRS filing regulations.

Thanks for your help

I'm a fellow user, and we have no way in a user forum to know if your specific email is real or not, but it certainly might be, since TurboTax does send such an email at times.    Of course, it is possible for email addresses to be spoofed, so it often creates a dilemma.

See this

FAQ: I received an email about a return with my information being on-hold

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/security/help/i-received-an-email-about-a-return-with-my-informati...

You definitely need to follow up on this with TurboTax Support ASAP..  Unfortunately, they are closed on weekends right now, so you may not make the 48-hour window.   The FAQ says to use the number in the email.  So it might be a special number that connects you to a specific dept. such as Security.   However, the dilemma is if you don't know if the email is real, whether to use the phone number provided in the email or not.   You may first wish to phone TurboTax Support general phone number to see if they can advise you first on the legitimacy of the phone number in your email.   You will see a number for TurboTax Support displayed in the following FAQ:

Thanks for the info, the numbers don't match with that link you gave me so I am going to try and follow up with turbo tax on Monday and see what happens.

@ alex-elopez1111

TurboTax has several phone numbers.  Because that is a security issue, if the email is legit, it may be a direct phone number to TurboTax/Intuit Security.  If general TurboTax Support acts like they are unfamiliar with the contents of that letter or the phone number in it, ask to speak directly to the Security Dept.

I found an old thread.  Is the number shown in this previous thread the one you were provided in the email?

If so, read that whole thread, including the answer by @Opus 17

I've also tagged him, so he may also comment here during the day today.

Yeah it is the same phone number. After calling it I hung up because it seemed weird that an automated response machine ask for my SSN. I'll sort it out in the morning.

Thanks again for all your help.

You're welcome.  When I tested it, it first asked me I was calling about the email, then it asked me about several scenarios that might explain it, and I said "no" to each.  Ultimately it asked if I wanted it to look me up by SSN and zip code to see if a return had been filed, and I said "no".  Then it said it would transfer me to a specialist.   When trying to do so, it said "currently closed" and provided the Mon-Fri business hours.

@alex-elopez1111 Have you called? Did you get an answer from TurboTax?

I am in the same boat and I also did not file a return this year.

Called the number. Seems to be legit. The customer support checked the system, I received the email because I was using a new account For the desktop version this year.

I aware of that, but the part of the email concerns me is that it says TurboTax will let the return filing go through if I didn’t contact them within 48 hours. I confirmed with the customer support and the system is not having any record that my return is being filed this year which is expected as I didn’t proceed to file it while I am still waiting for my wife’s SSN.

it is a bug.
