Questions to the Tax summary

I made the 2022 Tax Payment and made 4 Voucher Payments. In the 2023 Federal Tas Return Summary I cannot find anything about these payments and on top of it I am charged with a Penalty. Why?

Questions to the Tax summary

Did you enter them?  They should be on your 1040 on line 26.

To enter Federal or State Estimated Taxes Paid, including a state estimated payment made in January for the prior year, go to

Federal on left or at top (Personal for Home & Business)

Deductions and Credits at top

Then scroll way down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid

Estimated Taxes - click the start button

Questions to the Tax summary

Hello VolvoGirl, Yes I did and finished my tax.

but the problem still exist with the 2021 Tax.  I went back several years and found the in 2019 and in 2020 I made partial estimated tax payments.  In the 2019 return I had the estimated payments included in the tax and it was ok.  In 2020 I had it not included.  Don't ask me for a reason, I can't tell you. On Jan 24, 2022 I received a letter from the IRS stating I had 5043$ credit in my account, but they had no tax return.  Doesn't make sense to me, but it was Covid time.  The IRS requested that I send them my 2020 return with all attachments again, what I did, but I never heard back from them.  In the 2021 return I had the estimated tax which I paid on April 15, 2021 not included, maybe I forgot or I was under the assumption the Government will take care of it, because of the Jan 24, 2022 letter.  As I see it now the two estimated tax payments I made on April 15, 2021 are still in limbo or are taken by the Government with no return in sight.

The Jan 24 letter was a AP80 notice.  It stated also that the IRS sets strict limits for refunding or transferring credits.  I tried to find out what the time limits are.  In the IRS publication "Understanding your CP080 notice" it states:

Do to processing delays for 2019 and 2020 tax returns, the issuance of CP80 and CP080 (Unfiled Tax Return - Credit on Account) notices has been suspended.  If you received a notice for your 2019 return and you filed timely, please refile the return.  If you received a notice for your 2020 return DO NOT refile.

With this last sentence I do not know what to do.  What is the time limit for a credit transfer?

Any Advice and Help is appreciated.

Thanks

Questions to the Tax summary

I don't know.  I think you should have sent them the 2020 return with the estimates added on showing a refund.  Actually I just got a similar letter for  2023.  I tried to apply some of my 2023 refund to next year and they sent me a letter LTR0112C saying they didn't know what to do with it and wanted a tax return.   I wrote them back.  Don't know how long it will take them.  In a couple months I guess I should make a IRS account and see if it gets credited to me.
