my son paid $39 to file his federal taxes, using turbo Premier … I’m wondering why it was only $39… Is it because of his income level for the year… My other son paid $69.

He probably used Deluxe. Deluxe is $39. Or he's just seeing the separate $39 for a state return. OR the $39 Pay with Refund service charge to have the fees deducted from his refund.

Current pricing (until March 1) is $39 for TurboTax Deluxe and $69 for TurboTax Premier Online. I'd think that your son who paid $39 was able to complete his return using TurboTax Deluxe. That's the only explanation for the situation you've described.
