Preparation of Extensions

I can easily print Federal and NJ extensions from the IRS and NJ websites, respectively, and write in the required information.

Instead, can both forms be filled in on TurboTax (with identifying information and amounts) and printed for filing? I do not wish to e-file or pay online.

Are there any additional TurboTax charges for preparing extensions?

You don’t need to file Form 4868 if you make a payment using the IRS
electronic payment options. Your extension will be automatically
processed when you pay part or all of your estimated income tax
electronically. You can pay online or by phone.

You can pay all or part of your estimated income tax due and indicate that the payment is for an extension using Direct Pay, the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System, or using a credit or debit card. Your extension is then automatically granted and you will receive a confirmation number for your records.

If you have a federal extension, NJ automatically gives you an extension.

Check the box on your NJ tax return for federal extension.

I want to file my federal and NJ extensions by mail and make payments by check to the IRS and NJ.

Please see my original question.

you get Form 4868 from the IRS website.

You get Form NJ-630 on the NJ taxation website. Google it.

This is not your original question.

To do this you need two envelopes and stamps.

Preparation of Extensions

I have a federal extension and made partial payment in April 2022 for TY 2021. My understanding was that NJ automatically gives me an extension and I could just file it when I file anytime before October.  I now realize that I owe taxes to NJ. Am I going to be paying penalties for not having made partial or estimated payments since April 18, 2022?

Preparation of Extensions

Am I going to be paying penalties for not having made partial or estimated payments since April 18, 2022?   Probably but there is nothing you can do at this time ... after you file the state may or may not send you a bill for the late payment.

Preparation of Extensions

Went through the interview TT with TT expert again and found out I answered the questions wrong. I paid the taxes due for TY2020 in full in 2021, so there is no penalty for TY2021 (extension automatically granted in NJ if you received approval for federal extension).  🙂
