A friend of mine lives in Georgia. Before she relocated, she received about $25,000 of unemployment compensation from another state; she didn't receive any unemployment from the state of Georgia.
Is that $25K of out-of-state unemployment taxable in Georgia?

All income from all sources are taxable on a Georgia tax return while a resident of Georgia.
If they were a part year resident of 2 states then the unemployment received from any source is reported on the state return where it was received. So if they got all the unemployment before they moved then only the first state gets to tax it. Follow the interview carefully when filing 2 part year state returns.
That's the thing, though. She was not a resident of Georgia when she received the unemployment income. She only lived in Georgia from about August onward.
Thank you!!
As you complete each part year return you need to follow the interview carefully so you ALLOCATE the income between the states properly.
