I'm trying to get to the community, but when i login with my intuit account I get shoved off to questionaires about using TT online. I do not want to get sucked into that, how do I just get to community to complain that the usual easy-to-use desktop version has this year stymied me at the very beginning by not prompting for the same 1099s as always I have every year even though it has the list of them but wants me to type in a name or find it in a list.
You are in the Community! This is where your message appeared, in the TurboTax Community.
Have you started your 2025 Return yet? Once you start the return, you should find the prompt for creating the forms.
AI robot Catina answered the wrong question. I am an indivdual trying to use turbo tax windows for the perhaps 40th year in a row and I can't get 2026 TT to enter the data from paper and pdf copies of 1099s like I always could. TT now insists on trying to import data from the institutions on my last return and FAILS. The usual list of past 1099s doesn't show up for me to step through and type the two or three numbers I usually did.
@grandpaknei First----to set you straight---TurboTax Catina is a real live human being who is employed by TurboTax---not an AI bot. And she knows her stuff. She is excellent.
It is too soon to import many kinds of tax documents. Most financial institutions do not have their information formatted for import into tax software before mid to late February. It may be visible to see or print from their websites, but you have to key it in by hand if you are not willing to wait for it to be formatted to import.
Are you using the Desktop program? To start, at the bottom of the screen to type in your bank to import there is a little blue button to Skip Import. Then if you get the list of Interest and Dividends there is a pencil icon on the right by each one to edit it. And now they list ALL your interest, dividends and investments mixed on 1 list.
For Desktop.....when you click on either Interest, Dividends or Investments from the main first income list you get ALL your 1099 forms listed mixed together. You need to go to the bottom and click on +Add Investments
Thanks, entering my 1099-G tax refunds worked as you described.
Meanwhile I have found that the forms still exist with information carried over from previous year and can be edited as always, and I will consider that my immediate solution.
However the interest/dividend input user interface could be improved (by going back to the way it was in years past). What is one to do if the payer does not have an import option. The list of payers has to be enormous to scroll through looking for your bank.
I did determine that when I update Interest and Dividends, there is no button to skip import or pencil icon to edit, only the graphics artist's huge icons.
It starts with "Let's finish pulling in your investment income"
and has a huge icon for each of last year's investments.
There is no skip import at the bottom of the page or pencil icon.
Whereas with the 1099-G hitting "review" showed donation details carried over from previous years and allowed new numbers to be entered,
... in the interest section, hitting review brings up the import data scenario.
If I choose to skip import, it loops back to ask me to choose type, i.e. interest
when I continue, I get a blank page and am asked to type in financial institution instead of filling in data from previous year. There also are no prompts for payer's address or Tin, state id no or state tax withholding.
I have found that the forms still exist and can be edited as always, and I will consider that my immediate solution. BTW I can't find these confersations under my posts. It is always, perhaps intentionally, difficult to create a new post.
