My return got rejected 4 times, even though I fixed the action items. It was always correct when I answered the question (the 2019 AGI) but then it continues to reject it

Hi TurboTax Family and Friends. I have some very interesting information I would like to share with you all so you too can can be in the loop of what is going on between your tax returns and the IRS. This is some very helpful information that will help many people to see that it really is on the IRS's side of the fence where it is all going wrong at. Hope this helps explain somethings to those of you who are like me and simply needed an explanation as to why you had to file your return by mail. Or if you are me, for the second time in a row!

Resubmitted even though AGI for 2020 was correct.  Submission was not rejected, however it was not officially

accepted as I got no formal acceptance either.  Don't know if I should do anything to get an answer????

My return was rejected several times for incorrect previous year AGI, even though I went online and confirmed that the AGI was correct.  The IRS uses AGI or a PIN to verify that you are who you say you are.  I went online to IRS and had PIN generated and resubmitted.  It worked.  Think a new PIN is needed every year.  Program should flag AGI OR PIN as potential issue instead of pointing to PIN.

My RTN was rejected x4 also, and I was convinced that I had input the correct AGI for previous year, [used TT]. Finally, asked IRS for copy of last year's RTN, ...and, I was informed that we had never filed our 2022 RTN!!! I suffer from that old age disease:  CRS!  On the other hand, after speaking with a really nice IRS Lady, I found out that if you have a Refund Due, [we did!] there is a 3-year window before your taxes must be filed!  Wahoo!!  So this year we get a double refund!!  Fed and State!  So, while the window has closed for filing 2022 electronically; I was able to file 2023 electronically, using zero [0] for the AGI ; and have since received messages from IRS and State that our taxes were successfully received.  So why does TT still show "Rejected: Return reviewed"???????? Come on TT, get with the program!

The IRS uses your prior year AGI to combat fraud.

You can find your 2022 Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) by:

  • Looking at line11 on page 1 of your 2022 Form 1040; or
  • You can request a transcript of your 2022 tax return from the IRS to ensure you have the right number. You can request your transcript online at the following link: Get Transcript

Check these items as well to ensure you have the correct number.  If you:

  • Filed late last year after mid-November or your return was processed after that time—try entering 0
  • Amended your return last year—make sure you’re using the AGI from your original return, not the amended one. (If you only have a 1040X form, it’s on line 1, column A).
  • Rounded your AGI to the nearest dollar—be sure to round up when it’s 50 cents or more and down when it’s 49 cents or less.
  • Filed with your spouse last year—you and your spouse have the same 2022 AGI. (Don’t split the AGI amount or enter  0  for one of you).

Time-saving Tip: If what you entered is correct and you continue to get a reject, you won't be able to e-file. There's probably a data mismatch at the government, or some other situation beyond your control that prevents your return from being e-filed. In this case, your only option would be to print and mail in your return.

This article will give you instruction on how to print and mail your return.
