My return got rejected 4 times, even though I fixed the action items. It was always correct when I answered the question (the 2019 AGI) but then it continues to reject it

My 2021 Fed return got rejected for 2 reasons that I know....1. You didn't give me any time for us to sign the returns( Fed and state).

2.  The fed return asked for my wife'a  AGI.  We can not provide it.  I managed to find a possible copy of a completed 2020  Fed return but all of our records from 2020 were distroyed in a file.  Can I get around the AGI subject by snail mail the returns for 2021

You do not physically sign a tax return that is being e-filed.  The 2020 AGI is your electronic signature on the 2021 tax return.

Since your e-filed tax return has been rejected for the 2020 AGI, you can get a free transcript from the IRS for tax year 2020 which will have the 2020 AGI on the transcript - https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript

Or -

You can enter a 0 (zero) for the 2020 AGI and e-file the tax return again.

If the tax return continues to be rejected for the 2020 AGI you can print and mail the tax return.  The 2020 AGI is not used on mailed tax return.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for printing a tax return for mailing when using the online editions - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/printing/help/how-do-i-print-and-mail-my-return-in-turbotax-online...

This is still happening this year 2022! Is there a way around it? Or is mail in the only option?

As stated in the answer above - Did you try entering 0 (zero) for the 2020 AGI and e-file the 2021 tax return again?

Try it each way.  The 2020 AGI for you and the 0 AGI for your spouse.  If that is also rejected then enter a 0 AGI for both of you

Hi. Thank you so much for your response.  I did indeed enter 0 for the AGI, and it still rejected the return.  I decided rather than get frustrated I will just mail it in.

Very disappointed though with this years Turbo Tax.

Mine willl not file-- says its the AGI-- it asks for it--- for me- I put it in (it's there already ) --and for my wife- which makes no sense- it is a joint return..  I tried "0" for her and -- it still rejects..  and TT says- we will help you fix it- but there is no note to click on in the TT - to even bring up the problem-- This really sucks.   Looks like it sucks for a lot of other people too-- You would think TT would have this knocked out right away-- but nope.. and to go thru the final check again and again- and maybe say you'll pay- over and over--  TT-- why aren't you leading me to the answer?     ---as you "Promise" ?   this is horrible

There are reasons why a return keeps getting rejected. Please refer to following article for the list of reasons. You may need to mail in your tax return if you continue to have issues.

I tried every way to efile and kept getting rejected due to AGI, even though it was correct and verified with IRS.  Looks like a Turbo Tax error.  Will not use this software next year!!

If you filed by mail last year, the IRS will probably reject your return this year. You can get around this problem by either checking I did not file a return last year, or entering 0.00 as your AGI.

Second year of not able to e-file.  Newspaper article today, 04/19/2022, says paper filing returns will be months to get returns.

1.  If I purchase TurboTax next year will I encounter same problem?

2.  What is the correct answer(s), as far as the IRS is concerned, for AGI on MFJ return?

3.  Will those answers work this year?

How do I go about getting a Credit on my credit card for the state e-file charge which could not be used because of ‘rejection ISSUES.  I had to print my returns and mail them because after 4 submissions - all were rejected with same code - AGI error.  It was right and something on the Tax program couldn’t correct the issue.  TY

More than likely the IRS did not have the AGI in their database.   Did you try using 0 (zero) for the AGI - usually that will work.
