Adding to the pile of complaints here - I also got rejected 3 times trying different "forms" of the same AGI number from 2019. I tried using zero this morning and the federal return was accepted. Waiting on confirmation for my state return. It was also rejected for the reason that the federal return hadn't been accepted.
I'm having the same problem my return was rejected twice because of the 2019 AGI it keeps saying needs to be corrected, and after speaking with a TurboTax expert to fix it twice! Now it's past the deadline and it's still rejected! Please help!!!
My return has been rejected five times now regardless of the attempts to fix. (My official IRS transcript confirms I was using the correct AGI.)
I have now resorted to printing and mailing the return, something I have not done in a decade. Despite the fact that my first two attempts (and rejections) were timely (before the deadline), the included "electronic postmark - certification of electronic filing" however, refers only my LAST attempt this morning which is not the full story. As a consequence, now the IRS will think that my return was originally submitted online LATE.
What's going on Intuit???? Please advise.
Same here. AGI was verified, both on 2019 1040 and on IRS account. TurboTax says I can make up a new 5-digit self-selected PIN each year, so I tried changing that twice since I knew the AGI was correct. Then entered the IRS-generated 6-digit IP PIN in the actual tax return. Still rejected. So I entered "0" in 2019 AGI and return was finally - and inexplicably, since the information was correct all along - accepted. Several hours later, my state return was also accepted. TurboTax's explanation for reach rejection that "SpousePriorYearPIN' or 'SpousePriorYearAGIAmt' in the Return Header must match the e-File database." was not helpful, since when I followed the instructions (which were to verify I had the correct AGI) and it was STILL rejected, they kept telling me to fix the same thing that I had already verified to be correct in the first place. HIGHLY FRUSTRATING AND ANNOYING AND A HUGE WASTE OF TIME TRYING TO FIGURE THIS OUT. TurboTax user for many years - maybe due for a change next year???
YES THANK YOU!!! The EXACT thing happened to me! When I called to fix it the 1st time it was rejected, the lady I spoke with from TurboTax said it's because ur AGI is different from the previous year, I was told to put zero and that would fix it.. and it was rejected AGAIN for the same thing!!! Again I called, they tried saying the same thing I said I already fixed that, it's saying my 2019 AGI doesn't match. In 2019 I didn't report 0$!! I explained this and she said it's a common problem, walked me through few brief steps and said it's fixed.. again... NOPE🚫!! AND even better, last time it was fixed was 1st wk of April... Deadline was May 17th, I get email and txt May 16th saying "return rejected" AGAIN!! I had no time to be fixed. It was 9pm, cut off was midnight and I couldn't get anyone on the phone.. the soonest call back time was 2 1/2 hrs... I did wait, even tried "fix it myself" option. Didn't work, now it's late and I can't get ahold of anyone to help me fix it! I'm a single mom with 2 young kids I need the stimulus payments and the money I was supposed to get back from taxes for dependents, plus Child Tax Credit! I'm going to lose out on money I really need! If anyone knows how or who can help please let me know!!!
If the error persists and neither the 0 nor the amount shown on last years return works, you can also try to see if for some reason there is a different number on the IRS transcript on file for you, which you can pull here: View Your Tax Account.
Once in a while, for reasons that we simply do not know, the IRS database simply does not match up. When this happens, the only option is to print the return and file by mail.
Before you do this, though, do see if you can get a copy of your transcript to see what the AGI is there - as this should be exactly what is in the IRS database. Occasionally, this can be different due to an update on the IRS side or a rounding issue.
After more than 5 times. I did these 2 steps to make it work
1. IP pin from Irs, and input in the federal tax return
2. Put AGI as 0.
Not sure if by luck or what, now the application for fedral tax accepted. Hope this helps
My state tax still pending though
Need to know what I am doing wrong or how to fix the problem.
The same thing happened to me three times last night. Got a 2019 tax transcript today and confirmed the 2019 AGI has been correct every time (except a 4th time when I left AGI blank and tried to efile with just the pin).
Does anyone know if unidentified issues can be causing this problem? For example, this taxpayer's address changed in 2020, so maybe the IRS isn't picking up a match??? I feel that TT may be to blame by not handling/processing info properly somewhere during the interview??? The only code I am getting is for the AGI/Pin not matching, but they do match.
IRS WANTS TAXPAYERS TO E-FILE TO AVOID ADDING TO ITS MANUAL PROCESSING BACKLOG, SO TT SHOULD INVESTIGATE THIS SITUATION AND FIX IT.
Exact same thing for me. I submitted at least a half dozen times on May 17. Tried using 0 for AGI, didn't work yesterday. Tried using zero again today, May 18, no other changes, and this time it worked. Something was fixed since yesterday, but I hope I don't get crushed with penalties. I hope Intuit will make this right.
This is not a glitch in TurboTax. It is what the IRS tells us to do.
"E-filing your 2020 tax return: To e-file you will need to enter your AGI from your tax year 2019 tax return. If your 2019 return has not yet been processed, you may enter $ 0 (zero) as your prior year Adjusted Gross Income. If you used the Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here tool last year to register for an Economic Impact Payment, enter “$1” as your prior year AGI."

Enormously frustrating . . . I was rejected 3 times yesterday even though all my data was correct. I decided to try to file by mail late last night, but could not find an open post office within 40 miles roundtrip. Today, I submitted again and still waiting for a response. If it gets rejected, I'm just going to mail it in.
But I have a related question. If I am filing a married joint return, while does TT ask for the AGI separately for each partner (twice, actually)? I wonder if submitting a joint AGI separately for each partner is what doesn't match the IRS records?
I've been rejected 5 times since last night. This time I put a zero as my 2019 AGI and am waiting for the result. I've tried 3 pins, but I think the first one was correct and I know the AGI was correct. My past few years of taxes have been mailed. Do we get a new pin each year when we mail our taxes?
Usually entering zero works.
If not, I will suggest you to print out your tax forms and paper file to the IRS. To see explanations, click here:
I just got an email saying my federal return was accepted after replacing a zero as the AGI about an hour ago.. I already paid $25 last night for my state tax which was also rejected. Now how can I resend to the state without being charged again?
