I wonder how many people are waiting for 2/23/24. What a mess.
I just called Turbo Tax [phone number removed] to confirm the issue, here's a summary of the points on the call:
- Fix will be released around Midnight of 2/23 so update the software on 2/24 PST
- do a manual update of the software to be sure
- if there are still errors after the filing delete form 5695 and then do it again
- there is no penalty (supposedly) for multiple failed electronic filings
Steps below with a snapshot of the error message I received, the rep I spoke to was very helpful (Patricia) so it's refreshing that at least Turbo Tax support is good. I hope this works....
I’ve called 3 times. Got 3 different answers. The last person I talked to on Tuesday said something similar. Wait until the 2/24/2024. She told me to call when I get ready to refile. Crazy.
Wow, that's crazy. Suddenly I am not so confident this will work.
I asked to speak with the software team but I wasn't able to get to that team, just the CPA.
I will pull the CPA card next call. I will try to delete the form. Then Go back and redo it on the 24th. Unless I get a prompt. To just complete the return.
That's actually a great idea.
Why risk not deleting the form, I'll do the same as well just to be safe.
STEPS:
- delete form
- update software
- redo the form 5695
Will report back here on Saturday. Hopefully it works. Or we will regroup. Sue TT and go with H&R Block. Hopefully they read this. 😆
LOL.... yea I hope it's fixed on Saturday, I will report back as welll!
Turbotax has a good track record with me so hopefully this is just a one off thing so I'll give them a fair chance. No company is perfect, over all the quality of everything has gone down post Covid across all industries.
Maybe they will offer some credit back or discount on future products to people that were having issues, they definitely have the money to do that..
Ive called just to see if TT representatives knew there was a problem. Its no shock that they were clueless. I even had 1 get defensive when I said TT was having an issue and try to blame the IRS. He promptly hung up on me after I said I dont need to hear a defense of TT, because they clearly messed up. Im guessing they are gonna try to sweep this under the rug and offer no reimbursement for those affected. I dont care what the outcome is, Im going after them for deceptive practices and lackluster customer service.
I noticed my Turbo Tax updated and now things are even worse!
It's stuck on joint but separate property. Turbo Tax, now powered by Microsoft with just as many bugs and updates that break the program even more.
Can you tell me what sort of problems you are having? I am showing the issues with form 5695 have been resolved. If you are using the online product, try closing TurboTax, clear your Cache and Cookies if you are using TurboTax Online, and reopen TurboTax. You can also try a different browser.
If you still experience problem, please let us know where you are having problems.
I also am having an issue with this form. It is complaining about a missing address for a section that I am not using. I am only listing a home improvement.
I am still having this issue as of Fri Feb 23 2024 using the Mac desktop version of TT. The GUI window screen on the residential property credit isn't showing up correctly, with overlapping fields for how much I paid and how much was paid in total. It is also then asking for my address but the GUI won't accept inputs. Even when I do manage to sidestep the errors it only registers a $500 credit instead of 30% capped at $2000.
Discouraged.
Finally went through. They say. I didn’t delete any forms. There was a prompt to insert more info. About 4 or 5 lines or questions.
Yea I tried last night and it was a nightmare, the new "fix" is still buggy. I deleted form 5695 numerous times with still the same issue
- I had to manually delete a 2nd form of 5695
- go to form view and manually fill out my address so that the form would populate "YES" answers to questions 17, this was the original problem and seems to still be a problem for me
Finally there were issues with the transmissions last night, not sure if it was on Turbo Taxes side or on the IRS's end.
I just submitted my returns, hopefully it doesn't get rejected again.
