My computer will not open 2023 return the state is asking questions so i need to review 2023

I can not see my state return without opening my federal

If you have filed the 2023 tax return and it has been accepted by the IRS, you can download a PDF of your tax return.  The state tax return will be included in the PDF, located directly below the federal tax return forms, schedules and worksheets when viewing the PDF.

To access your current or prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents.  Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)

When you sign onto your online account and land on the Tax Home web page, scroll down and click on Add a state. 

This will take you back to the 2023 online tax return.

Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen.  Then click on Print Center.  Then click on Print, save or preview this year's return.  Choose the option Include government and TurboTax worksheets

I want to open 2023 tax return. NOT on line. I want to open it from the file on my computer. TurboTax wants me to use on line system. I did NOT file on line. I want to open my 2023 file. Have I made that clear? How do I open 2023 return that is on my computer. I do NOT want to go to on line system which you keep forcing on me.

@tiutniwantsdata  Do you have the tax return file ending in .tax2023 on your computer?  And the 2023 program installed?  Does the program start up?  If your return doesn’t open or show up in the box to continue then go up to File-Open.   What isn’t working?  How far do you get?   

Can you double click on the .tax2023 file?  What happens?  Where is the file saved on your computer?   You may need to first update the program and install any state programs you had. Then open your file. So you first might need to start a fake return to be able to download the state program (go to File-New Tax Return).

Then go to FILE -Open and find your return.

Or what file do you have on your computer?   Did you save it as a pdf file?   Any reader program can open a pdf.

I have a pdf. I want to see all the worksheets in the original TT format.

Doesn’t the pdf have all the worksheets?   Did you use the Online version or the Desktop installed program to do your return?  If you used the Online version then log in and save the pfd again.  If you saved the pdf earlier it may not be complete.  Now that Online is closed the pdf should have everything.   Although you may have to wait until online opens again for 2024 to get the prior year pdf file.   Right now Online is in transitioning to 2024.

Yes. The 2023 software initially would not stay open after I rejected going to on line status. I went away after posting irritated question. I just came back and this time TT did allow me to open 2023 ".tax2023" file.

Yes, it does. I did have the sense to "save all" as pdf when filing for our records. I started with TT out of habit. And when it behaved badly (at least to me) I wanted to confirm whether it was a software issue. I want TT to work on old returns if IRS comes back with changes etc. That has happened before.
