If you are filing separately in a community property state, TurboTax recommends that you switch to the CD/Desktop version of TurboTax.  Here is an article that provides you more details as well as additional links to more details on Community Property and completing the allocation worksheet:  Community Property/Filing Separately

 

If you are not filing in a Community Property State you can divide the deductions in any way that is reasonable to both of you.  Generally, medical expenses, state income tax, and employee expenses should be claimed by the person who incurred or paid them and joint obligations can be split evenly or allocated.   Also, If one spouse itemizes, both spouses must itemize even if their total is less than the standard deduction would be.
