I am recently divorced and was unsure of my filing status so I took the IRS filing status test and it determined that I was head of household. But I am not sure if I answered the following question correctly:
"did you pay more than half the cost keeping up a home in which you lived".
What is considered a "home" in which I lived?
In 2019, my 17 year old daughter (who is my dependent) and I moved around a bit. We rented a room from my father for a few months, then from my mother for a few months, and then we rented a basement apartment/room from a friend for 2 months. Are these rooms/basement apartments I rented considered "a home in which I lived"?
What is considered "keeping up half the cost"?
I did not own the homes or pay half of the cost of the main homes in which we stayed (the owners of the homes did that), I solely paid the rent (and provided food, some furniture, bedding, and other necessities) for the single rooms/apartment in which we lived.
I answered yes, that I did pay more than half the cost keeping up a home in which I lived. Was I correct? Is head of household my correct filing status?

It sounds like you answered the question correctly based on the information you shared.
The homes in which you and your dependent daughter lived was the space that you rented and paid for. Those were considered your home. If someone else (including your dependent) had helped you pay the rent and other costs associated with living in those spaces, then you would need to determine whether you paid over half the cost or if another person had paid over half.
If you did not actually pay rent for the space, then you did not pay over half of the cost of maintaining the home, the homeowners did.
