Is Form 8915-F available for tax year 2022 in TurboTax?

IRS form 8915-F should be available for electronic filing.  Are you simply reporting the third year of a 2020 Qualified Disaster Distribution or something else?

If you are reporting the third year of a Qualified Disaster Distribution, you will report 1/3 of the 2020 distribution.  Follow these steps to the screen Did You Take a 2020 Qualified Disaster Distribution:

  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Federal.
  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Wages & Income.
  • Click Edit / Add to the right of IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals.
  • At the screen Here's your 1099-R info, click Continue.
  • Continue to the screen Did You Take a 2020 Qualified Disaster Distribution.

If you are reporting the third year of a Qualified Disaster Distribution, you will report 1/3 of the distribution:

  • on lines 11 and 13 for retirement plans (other than IRA's) or
  • on lines 22 and 24 for traditional, SEP, SIMPLE and Roth IRA's?

To be able to electronically file, there is a workaround concerning checking the box If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020, check here at the screen Did you take a 2020 Qualified Disaster Distribution?

Please see @DataB27's explanation here.

Please try these steps to fix the rejection issue:

  1. Login to your TurboTax Account
  2. Click on the "Search" on the top and type “1099-R”
  3. Click on “Jump to 1099-R”
  4. If you do not have any 2022 1099-R answer "No" to "Did you get a 1099-R in 2022?" (If you have any other 1099-R then enter all 1099-R and after entering your last 1099-R click "Continue" on the “Review your 1099-R info” screen)
  5. Answer "Yes" to the "Have you ever taken a disaster distribution before 2022?" screen
  6. Answer "Yes" to "Did you take a 2020 Qualified Disaster Distribution?"
  7. Uncheck the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here" and click continue
  8. On the "Which disaster affected you in 2020?" screen I selected the blank entry and click "back
  9. Then recheck the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here" and continue.

Another option is to delete "Form 8915-F" and "Qualified 2020 Disaster Retirement Distr" and then go back to the retirement section and reenter the information:

  1. Open or continue your return in TurboTax.
  2. In the left menu, select "Tax Tools" and then "Tools".
  3. In the pop-up window Tool Center, select "Delete a form".
  4. Select "Delete" next to "Form 8915-F" and "Qualified 2020 Disaster Retirement Distr" and follow the instructions.
  5. Click on the "Search" on the top and type “1099-R”
  6. Click on “Jump to 1099-R”
  7. If you do not have any 2022 1099-R answer "No" to "Did you get a 1099-R in 2022?" (If you have any other 1099-R then enter all 1099-R and after entering your last 1099-R click "Continue" on the “Review your 1099-R info” screen)
  8. Answer "Yes" to the "Have you ever taken a disaster distribution before 2022?" screen
  9. Answer "Yes" to "Did you take a 2020 Qualified Disaster Distribution?"
  10. Check the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here" and enter your information.

Is Form 8915-F available for tax year 2022 in TurboTax?

And on lines 11 and 13 you input 1/3 of distribution? Is that correct?

Is Form 8915-F available for tax year 2022 in TurboTax?

Yes line 11 should list the amount in line 10 divided by three (1/3 of the total distribution).  The amount in line 12 would be the income for the prior years qualified disaster distribution.  Line 13 would be lines 11 and 12 added together for the total income for this year.

Is Form 8915-F available for tax year 2022 in TurboTax?

I called TurboTax today because they advised last week their IT was aware and would fix the issue. Well, today a supervisor said that the conclusion is they’re unable to efile any returns that have the 8915 F forms. We have to mail them in, but they’re still charging the fees. I call total bs and will be reporting this tomorrow to the news and someone in congress. They need be held accountable for this!

Which were you using?  If online, did you follow these steps and if so, was your return accepted?

Is Form 8915-F available for tax year 2022 in TurboTax?

@Trackstar  That is not correct. I'm certainly no TT fan. All but 1 phone interaction was either completely wrong or completely clueless. (The "1" person was someone that I didn't need to help me because I figured out my solution thru this group.)  All of this is to say the phone customer service is worthless. I actually got answers through DM'ing the FB page. They even admitted that my return wasn't sent because of an update to the 1099-B section; contrary to the last TT person I spoke with.

You can e-file the 8915-F.

Is Form 8915-F available for tax year 2022 in TurboTax?

I simply want to report the third year of a 2020 covid relief distribution. On lines 11 and 13 I have entered 1/3 of my 2020 distribution per your instructions. I leave lines 12 and 14 blank (is that correct?). I unclick the box, go forward, leave the disaster field blank, go back and re-click the box. I then go forward again and when it takes me back to the "My Income" page, it says $0.00 under 2022 for "IRA, 401K, Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R)".  Now that I think about it, maybe it's supposed to be $0.00, because technically speaking I didn't have any withdrawals in 2022 (???). It doesn't show the 1/3 amount anywhere else either as far as I can tell.

I want to be able to electronically file. I have followed @DataB27's explanation numerous times. I really do not want my return to be rejected for something that Turbo Tax should have fixed a long time ago.

Is Form 8915-F available for tax year 2022 in TurboTax?

ok so i went in again and filled out all correctly  5000 is the amount on line 11 and 13.....i clicked the boxes as instructed....and my amount due to the IRS   NEVER CHANGES!!!  this should definately go up and it doesnt   and under 2022 for the 1099 R   it shows zero as the amount   even though i put in 5000.....i know this is wrong and i dont want to pay them and have it rejected.....i cannot believe that there are so many of us and they cant help us...with no hope in site....im beyond frustrated...the only thing i havent done is delete the whole return and start over.....but im not sure that would work either

Is Form 8915-F available for tax year 2022 in TurboTax?

I have tried every work-around multiple times. Once I have followed all of the work around instructions, and I click on "Done with Incomes", it asks me if I want to upgrade, recommending "Assisted Premium" service.  I click to "Continue" with the "Premium" service. It then opens a new page that asks if I took a disaster distribution between 2018 and 2020. I click on "yes", and it tells me I need to revisit the Form 1099-R Retirement Topic.

Turbo Tax has me going in circles. I heard that there is a Reddit thread that addresses this issue. I guess I'll check it out.  Somebody needs to lose their job over this. This would have been my 8th year using Turbo Tax. Last year was also a mess over the same issue! I only tried it again this year because it never occurred to me that this same issue with 8915-F could possibly happen two years in a row. Again, somebody needs to lose their job.

Is Form 8915-F available for tax year 2022 in TurboTax?

Still curious if anyone's return has been approved. It's great that the work a rounds succeeded in returns being accepted. Any approvals ?

Is Form 8915-F available for tax year 2022 in TurboTax?

I just want to report the third and final year of a Qualified Disaster Distribution (non-IRA) or 1/3 of the distribution from 2020. For me, one third is $26,432. According to JamesG1 (Employee Tax Expert), I only need to report "on lines 11 and 13 for retirement plans". I'm reluctant to pay $100 more to be able to contact live support when most of the comments in this (and other) threads indicate that the TurboTax representatives are not prepared to discuss this particular 8915-F issue. I don't know if you are an employee of TurboTax, or just a kind Samaritan, but if you could confirm that I only need to fill in the 1/3 amount for lines 11 and 13 as stated by JamesG1 and let me know what to do about the spaces for lines 12 and 14, I would greatly appreciate it.
