Is Form 8915-F available for tax year 2022 in TurboTax?

Here is the workaround form Form 8915-F @bartlax21

When will Turbo tax fix the flipping 8915-f for Coronavrius so it's not causing the form to reject b...

@bartlax21

IRS acceptance time varies. Nine hours is not a long time and is not a cause for concern. TurboTax will send you an email or text message when your return is accepted. You can check the status of your 2022 income tax refund 24 hours after e-filing at Where’s My Refund?

Is Form 8915-F available for tax year 2022 in TurboTax?

Is there a workaround for the online version of TT?

Is Form 8915-F available for tax year 2022 in TurboTax?

Another member posted this. I did it and it worked. My return was accepted.

1. Start that section again and UNCHECK the coronavirus box. Then on the next screen I picked a random disaster and then went through the rest of the questions.

2. Go back to the beginning and go through the questions again. Leave the coronavirus box unchecked... but instead of picking a random disaster, choose the very top option in the dropdown list which is blank. This will delete the code TurboTax is putting on Line C.

3. Go back to the beginning and go through the questions again but this time check the coronavirus box.

@ErnieS0 Thanks for the reply. I understand 9 hours (in the grand scheme of IRS processing) may not be a long time; however, in over 20 years of e-filing, I've never waited longer than 30 mins for an accept text or email. When I see just about everyone else on this thread receiving replies in under an hour yet my first one sat for 12 hours before getting rejected. Now, this refiled one is over 24 hours with still no accept/reject notification is very much out of the norm.

The fact that I trusted TT to file about this year is my fault. My waiting until 3/9 and trusting that TT would have the 8915 ready to go, was my fault also. I didn't even pay until 3/9 because I was still pessimistic. Once TT took my money without knowing that the form was good-to-go, is beyond unacceptable.

SO...I know that TT washes its hands of any accountability once it has the fees, "satisfaction guarantee" no longer matters. I also understand that when the button gets pushed and the return is "pending" TT is all too quick to say, it's them not us. I received ANOTHER EMAIL from TT with the message, "

CRITICAL REMINDER: Your tax return needs to be corrected and re-filed

For me to get this message this morning, 15 hours after I re-filed, is troubling. Especially as I sit here over 25 hours re-filing still without an update on my transmission status.

I hear you about the "satisfaction guaranteed" baloney!  I discussed getting some credit with the tech support representative yesterday while trying to figure this out. Still, she quickly advised that once I e-file, TT is "unable" to provide credit or refund.  I hope TT is reading the room in pages like this one, and if you are (TT), you are clearly losing return customers next year.  I don't anticipate needing any unique forms like this one again, so I'm just as happy to leave TT as they were to not account for their own coding error with this form that is basically a repeat of last year's form (correct, but very late) with a new year.  At least some sort of mea culpa or acknowledgment of the error would be better than the script their tech support and reps are providing.

After 24 hours you should see if your return was accepted by the IRS. Check your refund status at the IRS. TT is absolutely worthless.

When will the new release be available?  If a distribution was taken due to coronavirus in any of the prior three years, the workaround is not available. Thanks!

Is Form 8915-F available for tax year 2022 in TurboTax?

Yes, you can file Form 8915-F to report the 3rd portion of the 2020 Covid distribution:

  1. Login to your TurboTax Account
  2. Click on the "Search" on the top and type “1099-R”
  3. Click on “Jump to 1099-R”
  4. If you do not have any 2022 1099-R answer "No" to "Did you get a 1099-R in 2022?" (If you have any other 1099-R then enter all 1099-R and after entering your last 1099-R click "Continue" on the “Review your 1099-R info” screen)
  5. Answer "Yes" to the "Have you ever taken a disaster distribution before 2022?" screen
  6. Answer "Yes" to "Did you take a 2020 Qualified Disaster Distribution?"
  7. Uncheck the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here" and click continue
  8. On the "Which disaster affected you in 2020?" screen select the blank entry (click on it) and click "continue"
  9. Go through all the question
  10. On the Income & Wage screen click "Edit" next to "IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R)"
  11. Click "Continue" on the “Review your 1099-R info” screen
  12. Answer "Yes" to "Did you take a 2020 Qualified Disaster Distribution?"
  13. Then recheck the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here", enter your information from your 2021 Form 9815-F, and then continue.

Please verify there isn't an entry on line C of Form 8915-F. If there is then try  to delete "Form 8915-F" and "Qualified 2020 Disaster Retirement Distr" and then go back to the retirement section and reenter the information:

  1. Open or continue your return in TurboTax.
  2. In the left menu, select "Tax Tools" and then "Tools".
  3. In the pop-up window Tool Center, select "Delete a form".
  4. Select "Delete" next to "Form 8915-F" and "Qualified 2020 Disaster Retirement Distr" and follow the instructions.
  5. Click on the "Search" on the top and type “1099-R”
  6. Click on “Jump to 1099-R”
  7. If you do not have any 2022 1099-R answer "No" to "Did you get a 1099-R in 2022?" (If you have any other 1099-R then enter all 1099-R and after entering your last 1099-R click "Continue" on the “Review your 1099-R info” screen)
  8. Answer "Yes" to the "Have you ever taken a disaster distribution before 2022?" screen
  9. Answer "Yes" to "Did you take a 2020 Qualified Disaster Distribution?"
  10. Check the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here" and enter your information from your 2021 Form 9815-F.

Is Form 8915-F available for tax year 2022 in TurboTax?

Thank you @DanaB27 I was on the phone for hours and the Turbo Tax experts told me I had to wait for the form to be released after having several rejections while submitting my returns. I have waited 2 days and decided to do a Google search and I'm so glad I did. Come to find out the 3 different people I was chatting with had no clue what was going on. I ended up deleting the forms and going through them again. I definitely lost some trust in Turbo Tax this year.

This worked for me finally! Thank you!! I'll return if I get rejected but I got passed the error message that was preventing me from filing.

Is Form 8915-F available for tax year 2022 in TurboTax?

ok  so i was getting the error that the form wouldn't be ready until 3/9   then on 3/10  i went into the taxes and its not giving me the option says everything looks good and ready to file...so i went into the form and checked the corona box that everyone says to check   and continued...they still are saying everything looks good. And didn't change the amount i owe...which one the 8915 is filed  it should go up.  so its still not seeing the form.  i am using the online version.

Is Form 8915-F available for tax year 2022 in TurboTax?

No, do NOT check the Cororavirus box for your Disaster Distribution.  Go back and uncheck the box before filing.

Actually, your refund should not change, because the form was calculated already into your return; it just wasn't ready to Efile.

It is reporting deferred income if you elected to take a 2020 retirement plan distribution and spread the income over three years.

Here's more info on Form 8915-F.

Is Form 8915-F available for tax year 2022 in TurboTax?

When is this issue going to be fixed? I've been working on it all day, trying every "work-around" that I found on this thread. Out of frustration, I deleted everything, thinking I may have to just find another way to do my taxes this year. Has Turbo Tax indicated that they are aware of the problem and do they plan to fix this? Last year it was the exact same problem, only then, Turbo Tax blamed the IRS for not having the form ready. We shouldn't have to do "work-arounds". Sorry to hear all the stories here of people spending hours on the phone, and returns being rejected due this 8915-F not working in Turbo Tax. 2 years in a row. Who has time for this?

To habos7, same thing here. I've been working on it all day. Last year was the same thing.
