I've used the desktop version of Turbo Tax for years. For some reason this year I was under the impression that I had to use the online version. I find the online version to be painful and clunky to use. Can I get my money back on what I spent on the online version, so that I can go back to purchase the desktop version?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
If you've already paid, you'll need to contact Customer Service. Here is a link to contact Turbo Tax Customer Service.
I contacted Customer Service and the call was escalated to the "Resolution" team. That team declined my request. In my opinion, the online version is not nearly as good as the desktop version. I've been a Turbo Tax customer for 15+ years and would expect better service from them.
Here are some examples:
1) You cannot toggle between the entry screens and the IRS form view
2) Screen navigation is not efficient
3) The online system said it found no record of line 2024 online version being filed electronically. I filed it electronically with the 2024 Turbo Tax desk top version!
4) The only way to view the IRS forms generated is to pay for the software (I understand why they did this) and then doing a view
5) The online help was "no help" to me. I had questions where the numbers calculated by the system, came from. It gave no explanation at the IRS Form line # level of the IRS form
Did you transfer your 2024 return from Desktop when you started your 2025 Online return? Sign in to the online version, start a new return, and select Tax Tools > Tools > Transfer last year's TurboTax return from your computer.
Here's how you can submit a request to Get a Refund from TurboTax.
Since you already paid for Online, try asking support to switch you to the Desktop program and put it in your account. Yes there are many differences between Online and Desktop. And Online can only do 1 return per account. And you may have to upgrade to a higher version to enter certain things, whereas all the Desktop programs have the same forms so you can use a lower version.
And do you know for 2025 you will need Windows 11 or Mac OS Sonoma 14 computer to install it?
I did contact Turbo Tax customer service who in turn assigned it to the Resolution team. Their resolution was a NO they would not allow me to revert back to 2025 for my tax return.
