Do you have a TurboTax Online account?

We'll help you get started or pick up where you left off.

I think I just entered all of my info twice, so TurboTax thinks I get paid twice the amount of salary I actually receive...

I was wondering why I had to enter my entire W2 information twice and thought that was odd, but just kept going. After I entered my information from my W2 once, it said so far I would RECEIVE a federal tax payment of $446 or something like that. Then I was prompted to enter the same exact information in a 2nd time (which was when I thought it was odd, but just kept going) and now it is estimating that I will OWE $4,195 in Federal taxes, which I know is incorrect. What should I do to move backwards and correct this? Thank you!

If you have not filed your tax return and been accepted, you can work back thru your current tax return to review your W-2 entries by,

  1. Signing into your TurboTax account (if not already)
  2. Click on Take me to my return or Pick up where you left off ( If you are not already in your return)
  3. Click on the Federal Taxes tab
  4. Within the Income&Wages section under the Federal Taxes tab
  5. This will take you the W-2 summary page to Add/Edit/Delete any W-2 information

Hope this was helpful!

This just happened to me, here's what I did: go back to the screen where you can view your documents. For me, I saw two W2's. One showed $0.00 and the other showed my current income. Once you start the filing process, I think TurboTax clears your 2019 W2 and replaces it with your 2020 W2. I located the W2 showing 0.00, looked over to the right and clicked the trash can icon to delete it. Once this was done, I was able to move through the Review step and File. Upon review, my income was correct (not doubled) and my tax return looked correct as well. Hope this helps!

What if my return was already filed and accepted before I realized? How do I fix it then, I still havent received my refund.

@April121483 Look at your Form 1040 to see if the income amounts seem 'doubled'.

If so, since you have already filed, wait until you receive your Refund before submitting an Amended Return.

An amended return doesn't 'catch up' with your original return and correct it.  It is processed separately and takes several weeks to complete.

The IRS may find your error and correct it for you.  If they do that, they will adjust your Refund and send you a letter telling you what they did.

Then you won't need to file an Amended Return.  If you do get the full Refund from your original return and your income was incorrect, click this link for instructions on How to Amend Your Return
