Is anyone having the same problem? My taxes are late and I want to file them before the end of this month. Please help!
Edited: The version I bought is the Home & Business complete with one state free, as I usually buy every year.

There are often problems with TT from other retailers. Call the helpdesk and see if they can assist.
Look at your software packaging---Costco sells Deluxe both with and without the state program. Which did you purchase? If you bought the version that does not include state software you have to pay an extra fee ($45) to download a state program.
I forgot to mention that I bought the Home and Business version because I run a small business/self-employed.
Thank you very much for the quick reply.
I'll try to do that tomorrow.
Thank you.
Have you rebooted your computer since installing and run the program updater after restarting the computer?
What happens when you try to download the state software? Is there any error message?
It is only Deluxe that is sold with or without state software. Premier or Home and Business always include state software. If you purchased Home and Business it does include the software for one state. If you are having problems downloading the state contact customer support.

Yes, I rebooted the computer several times. The error message is "Fail to install update. Microsoft installer error: 1603, Fatal error during installation."

Try downloading and running a manual update for the Federal program:
I assume you are using the Windows version.
Problem solved. Unplugged all the peripherals from the laptop and took it closer to the modem. Plug it in to the modem via a wired connection and "VOILA!", the state of California downloaded and updated pretty nice.
So, note to self: use a wired internet connection when updating and downloading TT software for the first time.
Thank you all for the help.
Best regards!
