Hi there,
I got a message last time I got in that I needed to pay taxes on the over contributed part of HSA. Where can I confirm there is over contribution? In fidelity, I don't see an over contribution.
Additionally, I don't see this message in turbo tax any more. Where can I go to get that info?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
Go back through the HSA questions in the interview. Search for HSA and use the Jump to HSA link to be taken there. Make sure you didn't accidentally re-enter the amount already listed (from box 12 of your W-2) as this will incorrectly double your total contribution amount. Why Am I Showing Excess Contributions to My HSA?
I reported HSA info in the W2 section. The amount I reported is $4,150.00, which is the federal limit. The HSA section is reported as zero. I am still seeing the fine. Anything I missed?
The limit ($4,150 if you're under 55 at the end of 2024 and are covered by an individual (self-only) HDHP) is prorated depending on the number of months you were covered by an HDHP and had no additional health coverage.
If you were only covered by an HDHP for part of the year, your contribution limit may be lower than above limit.
I don't think that is the issue. I was under HDHP the whole year.
Have you looked on your 1040 Line 25 and form 8889? This is where your HSA contributions are reported. If the amount listed here is above what is entered then that will indicate a data entry error withing the return. To view your form you can click forms in TurboTax Desktop or follow these steps in TurboTax Online:
Once you have reviewed your return, respond back with if it is reporting over what you entered or if it is showing what you enter.

Final update on this issue: it is fixed now.
Turbo Tax seems to be under the assumption that you DO overcontribute until you clarify you don't. You need to go to the HSA portion and fill out 1099-SA and answer a series of questions.
