Grandfather as dependent

I take care of my grandfather and I provide for him house and food and all.

However, I'm not sure what is consider as taxable income? He received S.S. and his pension.  However, how can I tell if his pension is taxable income or not taxable?

Thank you

His Social Security does not "count" but if the pension is more than $4700 for the year, you cannot claim him as a dependent.  And whether the pension is taxable or not is not relevant.

IRS interview to help determine who can be claimed:
