I purchased TurbpTax in 2018 to do my 2017 fed and state returns. What happens now for 2918 returns? Do I Buy a new package? How does basic data transfer from 2017 returns to the net year?

You have to purchase the product for each tax year. When you purchase TurboTax 2018, it will automatically import a lot of your data from your 2017 tax file and save you tones of time typing it all in again. Of course, it can only import provided the 2018 program has access to your .tax2017 file.

I have purchased the program for both years - 2017 and 2018 (CD version, and I have downloaded updates). For some reason it is asking for a .txf file instead of a .tax2017 file. I am guessing that txf might be for Windows, but I have always used Mac computers, and I have the prior year file (.txf) on the same computer where I installed the 2018 Turbo Tax Premier Program. What gives?
