After nearly finishing the Free Edition Federal return was I told that because my 1099-INT interest income was over $1500 I had to upgrade to a paid version. I won't finnish the return I wasted time on already. I want to cancel the return I started with Turbotax. How do I do that?

go to tax tools on the left, click down arrow, select delete and start over
No it is not because of the amount of your refund. It is due to some sort of income you entered or some form you need that is not supported by the Free Edition.
WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY? I WANT THE FREE EDITION
The information that you can enter in Free Edition is pretty limited now. Thanks to the new tax laws that began for 2018 returns, there are no more simple Form 1040EZ or 1040A's. Everything goes on a Form 1040 that has three extra "schedules" with it, and if you need any of those schedules, you are not able to use the Free Edition. Using the standard deduction instead of itemizing does NOT mean you will not need any of those schedules.https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/4511011-what-happened-to-the-1040a-and-1040ez If you started in the Free Edition and entered any data that required any of those three schedules, you have to upgrade to a paid version and if you are watching the screens carefully you are alerted to the upgrade.
When you chose to “start” in the Free Edition —
Directly below the words “Free Edition” there is a blue link that says “For simple tax returns only” If you click that link it brings up this information:
You can file with TurboTax Free Edition if you have a simple tax return.*
*A simple tax return is Form 1040 only.

How does TurboTax make any money?
Customers with more complex tax situations will file with our paid TurboTax products that provide all the additional forms and guidance they need. We also offer additional benefits that go beyond filing your taxes, but they are optional and are not required to file simple taxes for free. We hope that, over time, as our customers with simple returns need more capabilities as their financial situations change (for example owning a home, having a child, managing investments), they have loved our products and services so much that they will choose our paid TurboTax offerings to prepare and file their returns.
Or—-Use this IRS site for other ways to file for free. There are 8 free software versions available from the IRS Free File site

How can I see my TurboTax fees?

If your TurboTax fees are higher than expected, you can reduce them by removing add-ons:
Actually, it was Interest Income over $1500 that triggered the alert that I had to upgrade. I did not agree to upgrade, I just exited the program and filed my taxes through a Free file service in the IRS network. All I want to do is cancel the return I started in TurboTax before I was told Intrest income was too high to file for free.. Otherwise...the unfinnished return will just sit there in an account that I have no intention of using again.
Just clear it and do not "start over" then
CLEAR AND START OVER

I cleared the form and left it that way. Filed through an IRS Free File tax service instead.
FREE EDITION states that 1099-INT and 1099-R are SUPPORTED.
I went to do my taxes and it’s telling me to upgrade to Deluxe because the interest amt is over $1500!! Why doesn’t it say that on the site before you begin?! This Free Edition is a complete bait and switch. 100%. No one qualifies. Its absurd. Why would the site states these forms are supported if there are a ton of stipulations?!?!!! Maybe make this transparent so people don’t lose their mind with Turbo Tax Free Edition every single yr!
I see someone just posted the same thing above. I was so frustrated I didn’t even read the entire thread above. I guess I am not the only one that wasted their time again with Turbo Tax and insanely misleading advertising
Can I ask the poster above which IRS free file product they decided to use?
I was aware that TT Free is for “For simple tax returns only” and some guidelines were given. It does say "Limited interest and dividend income reported on a 1099-INT or 1099-DIV".
What it didn't say is that $1500 was the interest income limit to file free. I did use a service from the IRS Free File network and have already recieved my Fed and State refunds.
I used FreeTaxUSA to file state and federal returns for free. Got state refund in 1 week and federal refund a week later.
