It will not matter that your spouse's social security number is on the form 8995. That is only used to identify whose tax return the form belongs to.

Form 8995 is for reporting on the Qualified Business Income Deduction (QBI). It will be associated with business income reported on your return, such as self-employed income or income reported on a K-1 schedule, or even rental income. If you are filing a joint tax return, it does not matter which social security number appears on it, but it may be associated with the individual who is associated with the K-1 or business being reported on.

No, the return has not been yet filed.  I noticed the anomaly (name and SSN not matching) when reviewing the federal return prior to filing.

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, my Form 8995 has calculations based on rental income.  The rental is owned by both me and my spouse.

So, either name listing or SSN  would have been appropriate.  My concern, as you are aware, had to do with my name being listed on the form next to my spouse's SSN.  I didn't want that mismatch to cause an IRS computer to see that as an error on our return.

I gather from your response, I shouldn't be concerned.

This is my first time using TurboTax.  If I was filling out a paper return, I could easily have corrected the misstep.  I can't help but be bothered that using a program I may be restricted from correcting what I  (but hopefully not the IRS) see as an error.

Thank you again for your input.

There's really nothing to be concerned about as indicated by our awesome Tax Expert @ThomasM125The IRS would not flag a return for this reason.

Next year we also have TurboTax CD/Download if you want to try that version. Both products provide guided step-by-step instruction to assist you in getting every deduction and claiming all required income.
