Dropping support for WIndows 10 for Turbotax 2025

I have sent an email to the office of the President and the CEO of Intuit asking for a one year extension on using windows 10 for the new version. Hopefully they will agree with us and give us that one year extension. I really dont want to import my files into another program if I dont have to. way too hard to import back into Turbo Tax.

I am posting a link. it is a form that goes to the office of the president, maybe if they get enough complaints they will change the new requirements. Please fill out the form and let them know your displeasure. Please be nice or they won't do it for sure. Thanks.

Please answer yes if they ask you if you have contacted support. You will find out that answer is good otherwise you wont get the form.

I sent in form and actually got a call, but not encouraged.  Basically said, we will pass on your information.

This is wrong. My laptop will not support Windows 11. And I do not want my taxes online on your server. It should be my choice, whether or not I want to buy a new computer and update to Windows 11 or not. It should not affect my ability to do my taxes on my laptop. Is there an opt out option whereby I can still have a desktop product from turbotax?

Not unless Turbo Tax changes and lets 2025 be installed on windows 10.  How to contact Turbo Tax

I also completed the form to contact the office of the pres. Got a phone call within hours and a follow up email. Email stated in part "this decision was made to ensure we continue providing the highest level of protection for our customers’ sensitive financial information" The individual who called kept talking about how Microsoft was going to stop the security updates for Win10. I pointed out that Microsoft was going to provide 3 avenues for continued support and if Microsoft could determine who opted in to one of those options surly Intuit could and allow installations on supported computers. As you can see from their response, they weren't listening. That said, I think we should all complete the contact form anyway - remember when they wanted to discontinue It's Deductible?

I have completed and submitted the form as well. It's only been a few hours so no response as of yet. In some ways, I'd rather get no response at all then receive a party-line response that is devoid of any meaningful discourse.  We shall see. But I would not bet the proverbial ranch.

I got a very nice person from the president’s office who agreed with me that using the desktop version with the optional Microsoft updates was probably safer than doing my taxes on the web. She said this move was planned for a while but there still was hope. She also said if enough people filled out the form and it was brought to the attention of the president there still was hope for a one year extension. Who knows, keep filling out the form. Thank all of you.

I received my call back today, informing me that if enough people complained, the matter would indeed be taken up by higher management. That's all very nice and all that can be expected of the person that initiated the call. It remains to be seen, however, if Intuit will reverse their ill-conceived decision.

True, person on phone can only do so much.  I even went into detail why it shouldn't make any difference unless they were using a function only available in Windows 11 which is doubtful.  And if they did use a function unique to Windows how to program around it depending on Windows version- not that hard and doesn't take another program/app.  And to my surprise, I could hear keyboard clicking as I explained.

Still I don't expect any change, this is a management decision already made and really wanting to force you into using their online version.  Which BTW, I won't do.

I plan to upgrade to Windows 11.  After the upgrade will my TT 2024 desktop still run on the new version of windows?

Dropping support for WIndows 10 for Turbotax 2025

@MICKEY79    Yes.  All my programs back to and including 2019 open and run.  I did have a problem getting 2024 to update.   So ended up having to reinstall 2024.   Here are my notes.

6/12/25 I updated my Windows 10 to Windows 11. Had trouble getting Turbo Tax 2024 updates (my 2023 program updated ok). Got error 1603. My Windows was updated. Tried lots of things, turning off A/V, restarting many times, clearing cache & cookies, updating Windows, etc. Got stuck with MS Net Framework. I seem to have Net 6 under Program Files (x86) instead of Net Framework 4.8. So I finally decided to uninstall TT and reinstall. Went to Settings-Apps-TurboTax 2024 and uninstalled.

6/15/25 Sunday. Logged into my Intuit Account - Products and downloaded 2024 again
Windows_PC_TurboTax_Download (2).exe 409,926 kb. My first download was 1/3/2025 363,627 kb

Installed it. It never asked for my License Code or to download my state. After it installed, it didn't automatically start so I clicked on the Desktop Icon to start. It asked me if I wanted to update. I did and it only updated California (to release 5/8/25). I think the new download had the current federal updates. All my returns were listed and opened.

That is a good question, I would hope TT 2024 would run on Windows 11.  Seems Intuit would have a legal responsibility to support 2024 so people can amend tax returns for year 2024.

Then if it does run on Windows 11, it proves my point that they are not being truthful about must have Windows 11 for tax year 2025 software.  And they are putting code in TT 2025 to check version and stop running or using a special feature in Windows 11 that has never been needed just to make you upgrade.  Also to lazy to put code in 2025TT  to work around  Windows 11 issue.

What they are doing makes no sense from a coding issue that I can think of, would like to hear a technical reasoning!  Noting else I am running requires me to upgrade to Windows 11, same code is running right now in either environment 10 or 11.

I posted a message to the president's office last week and got a call back the next day. Spent twenty minutes on the phone with a very nice lady who listened patiently to all my complaints and comments. She suggested using the online version, but told me it doesn't have the Forms option, which I use to check some of the more complex transactions I need to report. I also asked her if online would still let me do the tax returns for a couple of family members, and she said that online doesn't allow that either.

Then I asked her about the cost of the online version of Premium, and it comes out much more expensive than buying the desktop version when there's a deal at Amazon (which there always is).  So I'd be paying more for less.
I hope enough unhappy users are messaging the president that it might have some impact.
