Very disappointed in this decision. I have used TTX for a couple decades and keep my disc every year. May have to search out other options.
the cds for 2020 and prior are probably f no use. even if you kept 2020 all the prior years installed you may not be able to open the app if you try. It happened to me when i tried to open 2020. no update server. Also, they cannot be reinstalled because the update servers for those years are gone as is the ability if needed to first download state returns used that year. as @imnotrod you can purchase the CD for an additional $10
agreed.....I want a cd

Once you purchase the download and have the license code you can purchase the CD for $10.
Go to this website for the CD after you have the license code - https://turbotax.intuit.com/lp/ttd/4021/
My small law office has used Turbo Tax Home & Business for the previous 15-25 years, and I am not satisfied that Intuit has made this terrible business decision to only allow downloads of Turbo Tax with no CD as back- up. Computers are wonderful when they work, however, often information is lost or misplaced when the equipment fails for any reason. At times, the hard drive needs replacing - and without the program disc as back-up - you cannot retrieve the program files to open your prior tax returns. DON'T DISCONTINUE SELLING THE CD's in 2024. And....if you just do not understand that you will still have to download all updates and state programs, and just want a CD anyway--you can pay to get one:

In addition to data backups, always take periodical disk image backups. With a disk image, you simply install your replacement disk drive or SSD and overlay your disk image on it. Voila, your machine comes back up exactly as it was when you took the image. All data, programs, icons, settings, email, etc.
i had to bite the bullet and buy a download. but thanks to another user that posted a link on how to order a CD by providing the license number, I went ahead and ordered a CD.
@Wilhelm52 Even if you have the CDs you won’t be able to reinstall 2020 or prior. They only support the last 3 years. And the License Code started in 2019. So 2019 needs to connect to Turbo Tax to verify the License Code. But they have stopped supporting 2019. So you can’t install and activate 2019 and newer when they stop supporting each year going forward.
And if you do get 2018 and prior installed you won’t be able to update it or download any state programs. So you should save all your returns to a pdf file with all the worksheets. Open each year and save them now if you haven’t already.
Would that be thanks to @imnotrod ? The first finder of
https://turbotax.intuit.com/lp/ttd/4021/ Buy your download to get your key, buy the CD here to install the program, and then get your updates downloaded next year : )
which I see has been reposted several times without a shout-out to me - except for the kind words from @VolvoGirl ... Yeah, I'm crying and want a little bit of credit. Since I posted this data, I see people are still mad that they cannot get a CD, but if posts are read, this info was posted like two weeks ago.
yes you get the credit , all the credit, for your post on how to obtain a CD version of Turbotax.
in all truth, I had saved the link that you posted, but could not find your original post when i returned few days later,
i have to say, that if it was not for your post, I might have bought a different tax prep product.
so, on behalf of the entire outraged community for no more CD version to buy, thank you !!!!
Question for Intuit:
The last time I used the download version (just once), it would not pick up my data from the previous year since the previous year was done with the CD version. Has that flaw been corrected so that it will pick up 2023 data stored on my PC?

Transferring the 2023 tax data file to the 2024 tax return has nothing to do with the CD. The tax data file is saved by the user when they exit the TurboTax program. It is stored in the TurboTax folder within the Documents directory.
If you save your 2023 tax return, the 2023 tax data file will be available for transfer to the 2024 TurboTax program.
@Jfleafus Are you confusing the download program with the Online version? They are not the same. The download is exactly the same as the CD program. It’s just the method you use to install it. But even if you used the Online version last year you still could have transferred from the previous year Desktop program. Did you ask for help on transferring?
