Can't efile 2020

Say no----you did not file.   If you say yes it will ask for your AGI--which is not in the system since you neither e-filed nor mailed it.

If it was rejected for AGI—-be aware that many 2019 returns took so long for the IRS to process that your 2019 AGI might not be in the IRS system.   Try using zero instead.

If filing with zero is rejected then file again but select the option that you did not file last year.  The IRS does not see that question and it will allow you to e-file with no AGI question.

Or—-if you filed as a “non-filer” just to get the stimulus check on a 2019 return, try using $1 as the AGI.

If that does not work and you still cannot e-file, then print, sign, and mail your tax return.

Since the 2019 was not filed, enter a 0 (zero) for the 2019 AGI so that you can e-file the 2020 tax return.

You will have to print and mail the 2019 tax return.

To access your current or prior year tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show.  Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)

A 2019 tax return can only be printed and mailed, it cannot be e-filed.

Print, sign, date and mail the tax return to the IRS.  Include with the mailed return any forms W-2 and 1099 which have taxes withheld.  Go to this IRS website for mailing addresses - https://www.irs.gov/filing/where-to-file-paper-tax-returns-with-or-without-a-payment

Are you saying that you paid your 2019 tax due but did not file the return at all because the e-file was rejected?   Or did you mail in your Form 1040?    If you did not file the return then you can still mail it---it cannot be e-filed.   Attach copies of your W-2's or any 1099's that had tax withheld and attach a copy of your proof that you paid the tax due---like a copy of the cancelled check or bank/credit card records.  Send it certified mail so you know they received it.  Make sure you sign it on the line that says "Sign here."

Yes we paid for 2019 taxes due but had no idea the efile had been rejected. so didn't mail 1040 form only mailed payment voucher w/ check.

Being told to enter "0" for 2019 for AGI to efile 2020.  Also being asked if 2019 taxes have been filed...how do we answer this question?

Will give it a try!  Thank you very much.

Can't efile 2020

An IRS supervisor told me that 2019 taxes took all of 2020 to process from delays caused by the pandemic restrictions.  Many 2019 tax returns were not in the system at the start of 2020 so there was no 2019 AGI to verify for the 2020 e-filing, i.e. nothing to match it against.  A prior year recommendation said to try replacing the prior year AGI response with $0.  I tried that after my 2020 submission was rejected.  I received a preliminary "accepted" response from TurboTax and just now received a notice that it was accepted by the IRS.

any suggestions

Do you mean you cannot find your 2019 AGI?

Where do I find my AGI?

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/prior-year-return/help/how-do-i-access-my-prior-year-return/00/270...

Your 2019 tax return shows your 2019 Adjusted Gross Income  (AGI)  If you filed a joint return then the AGI is the same for each of you.

Form 1040        line 8b

If you are using the same TT account that you used last year, you should also be able to find this number in your Tax Home for 2019

If entering the amount from your 2019 tax return does not work, then try entering “0” instead.  If that does not work and you still cannot e-file, then print, sign, and mail your tax return.

You can get a free transcript of your past return from the IRS:

https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript

Note: If you filed late or amended your return, your correct 2019 AGI may not be in the system.

Note:  If you mail your federal return, you will also need to mail your state return.  You will not be able to e-file your state return.

it is a good idea to use a mailing service that will track it like UPS or certified mail.  Then you will know the IRS received it.

If you used the wrong AGI, your e-file  be rejected.  When you get the rejection notice, correct it and re-file.

Try it again but enter zero “0” for you 2019 AGI. IRS had not processed all the returns from last year.

How can I file 2020 taxes do I still have time

Can't efile 2020

no I did not file 2020 taxes but I do have them

Can't efile 2020

@ruthsoufcart E-filing is closed.   The only way to file your 2020 tax return now is to print it, sign it in ink, and mail it.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

If you are getting a refund, there is not a penalty for filing past the deadline.  If you owe taxes, the interest/penalties will be calculated by the IRS based on how much you owe and when they receive your return and payment. The IRS will bill you for this; it will not be calculated by TurboTax.
