Can I claim my son who was a student and now in the military?

My son is 22 years old, he was a Part time College student from January 2022 to July 2022. He worked a full time job for 6 months. He then join the army military in October 2022. Can I claim my child as a dependent?

Since he was not a full time student under the age of 24 and had gross income of $4,300 or more in 2021 you will not be able to claim him as your dependent on the 2021 tax return.

If he was not a full-time student for part of 2021 then you can only claim him as a qualified relative if he earned less than $4300 in 2021.  That sounds unlikely if he worked full-time for six months and then joined the military.

IRS interview to help determine who can be claimed:
