Tax Year Prior to 2020: Am I eligible for stimulus package check from IRS?

I filed single in 2018 and married jointly in 2019.  I did not receive a stimulus check, but my wife received the full $1200.  I'm assuming my income was too high at 130K for single in 2018.  But filing in 2019 as married I would think would kick the limit up to 150K.  Is 2019 not taken into account?  Any thoughts?

This would probably mean that the IRS processed your stimulus payment based on your 2018 tax return as they had not yet received your 2019 tax return.

If you are eligible in 2020, you will get your stimulus when you file your 2020 tax return (next year).

There has only been 1 economic impact payment approved as of today.   @till258578

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, a $2 trillion stimulus package, will deliver relief through a range of measures, including an advanced tax rebate to taxpayers.

It entails a refundable tax credit of up to:

  • $1,200 for individuals
  • $2,400 for joint taxpayers
  • $500 per qualifying child

Stimulus payments will be based on information from your most recent tax filings, either 2019, or 2018 if you haven't filed this season yet. But, the amount paid to you now will be reconciled on next year’s tax return based on your current 2020 situation.

You can check on the status of your stimulus payment at the IRS Get My Payment site.

Tax Year Prior to 2020: Am I eligible for stimulus package check from IRS?

I owe back child support. from a previous marriage. I did not receive my stimulus check. My question is for my wife. She is disabled and receives SSI and SSA. Her income is not taxed. They applied her stimulus check to my debt... I don't know if I can claim her as a Injured Spouse? What can I do?

The stimulus payments are being garnished for child support obligations only. If you already filed an injured spouse form, another is not required.

Per the IRS:

A45. The CARES Act limits offsets of Economic Impact Payments to past-due child support. No other Federal or state debts that normally offset your tax refunds will reduce the EIP. Nevertheless, tax refunds paid under the Internal Revenue Code, including the Economic Impact Payment, are not protected from garnishment by creditors once the proceeds are deposited into an individual’s bank account.

If you are married filing jointly and you filed an injured spouse claim with your 2019 tax return (or 2018 tax return if you haven’t filed your 2019 tax return), half of the total Payment will be sent to each spouse and your spouse’s Payment will be offset only for past-due child support. There is no need to file another injured spouse claim for the Payment.

@pfab72

The IRS can look at your 2018 or 2019 return to issue a stimulus check.  If they do not have a 2018 return then you may be waiting for them to finish processing 2019 before they will be able to use it to issue your stimulus check.

If you used the non-filer site, you will not be able to e-file a 2019 return after using the non-filer site.

TurboTax has no control over your stimulus check, nor can TT track it for you or tell you when the IRS will issue it. Refer to the sites linked below:

You can call the IRS hotline at 1-800-919-9835 to get updates on your stimulus payment.
