This has been irritating me for years. After Turbotax updates, it doesn't remember the last return worked on. Instead, it opens a new blank return. That is absurd.

TurboTax Desktop asks me to update when I first open it. At that point, I don't have any return open. When it is finished updating, I get a pop-up saying '..continue to use TurboTax..' .
When I click on that, I am viewing the tax returns available, and the last one I worked on has 'Continue' to click on, so have not experienced the issue you have.
