Did you possibly hit your limit of installations? You can install the software up to 5 times. So we can take a closer look at your specific situation, please reach out to us directly using the Help Article here. This ensures you will get to the correct department as quickly as possible.
Heather, apparently you do not understand the problem. We are complaining about installing it on one computer, one time, and having to supply the activation code each time we access the already installed program. I, personally, have not seen this after becoming very careful about what external drives I have plugged in whenever I use TurboTax, but since I store a lot of photography on external drives, it is extremely challenging. You need to bump this up to the design department. There is no reason I need to re-activate my purchased copy every time I add or change an external drive (or, in some cases, every time Microsoft does a major Windows update that is fooling TurboTax into thinking it is being used on a different computer).
Please, bump this up to a higher level before you really start losing customers... argghhhh!
Unless the limit on installations == 1, I have not hit the limit. One computer, one install. All I did was
open 2021 to get a calculation sheet from last year's return. I opened the update window, TurboTax
updated, and refused to continue without an activation code which I could not find. TurboTax apparently
treats any change in software or hardware as an attempt to defraud Intuit, and that is contemptible. We
have no control over Microsoft, , Intel, Nvidia or any other updates. Intuit needs to fix this and assure that
it never happens again.
Hi MaynardK,
Just want to clarify while many users indeed are talking/complaining about one install on one computer there are some in this thread who have TurdoTax installed on more than one computer. The license (at least with my copy of Premier) allows for installation on up to 5 of my computers. While it is only currently installed on 2 (my desktop and laptop) the license entry problem occurs on both. Today, when I started TT on the laptop, it wanted to install an update. When the update finished - presto chango. I needed to re-enter my license key. It gets old, really old.
Yup, I understood that. I am pretty sure it is the same issue, the security software getting confused, thinking it is being installed on another new computer every time it is opened.
I do have to say that 2022, contrary to my 2021, hasn't done this for me, even when the configuration of my computer has changed.
I am having this problem with Turbotax 2022. Please give me insight.
Read this entire thread. There you will find plenty of insight...
Please check the response up higher in this thread by @VolvoGirl1 as this will help you out. @dcblack
Hello CarussaM - Employee TurboTax Specialist,
While I understand the the advice (etiquette of) checking back in the thread for workarounds (of sorts) the bottom line is (unless I missed it) TurboTax has yet to provide a solution or even a projected resolution date. In over 35 years of both professional and personal PC use (yes I used pc's even before there were 'luggables') I have NEVER encountered activation/licensing problems like TT has.
To restore my desktop to last year's hardware config I'd have to remove and reconfigure memory, remove and replace the ssd drive with the old and failing hdd. Same for the laptop except the hdd was in better shape. And then, I'd need to figure which of my backup drives I was using and which of (in a check book box of thumb drives) was in use. Retrieving the prior hardware configurations simply is not an option.
In essence, TT almost seems to trying to make the activation/licensing a PEBCAK error/problem. That is incorrect, you know it, and I know it. TT's lack of regard for the value of its users' time, particularly in stressful and unpleasant season of taxes is, in my estimate, unforgivable.
Would you please be so kind as to find out if, and when, TT is going provide a more reliable activation/licensing key? Your assistance would be greatly appreciated by both the users who are complaining on this forum as well as the thousands who curse TT and suffer in silence. At one time I could recommend TT, now, let's just say not so much. Sorry.
Well f'ing said, gom!! Sadly, they'll likely ignore you, too, then again repost their useless go-to help link...
So you're still intent on addressing this broad, systemic problem one customer at a time?! Do you even realize how completely futile and idiotic that is, dear?
This response from intuit is precisely why my son-in-law refuses to use TurboTax. Their technical support is crap. I’ve been a programmer for 50 years and I know they could do better. The error message could be improved and/or they could ask for the console log files. A cursory look at the system logs for TurboTax reveals they have a bunch of coding errors. This is with the very latest version.
I teach for a living and you can guess what I tell my students about certain software products.
