Many of us on this forum have reported and posted identical problems with efiling our returns that contain form 5695 entries. My return was also rejected (several times) and I also saw that this was attributed to a “processing error” between Turbo Tax and the IRS. Having to wait until March 6 to re-file, especially when a refund is due, just is not doing right by the customer! Apparently this was also a problem last year. So, lessons NOT learned? Ultimately, waiting until March 6 seems like the lesser of two evils. Mailing a paper copy to the IRS and hoping it doesn’t get lost in transit or further delayed upon arrival doesn’t seem like a safe alternative.
It would be great to hear directly from Turbo Tax that 1) They are aware of the problem and explaining what the problem is and 2) When they have solved and corrected the problem. TT is quick to send marketing emails. How about sending something constructive like telling us when this problem will be solved? Thanks
Yes, you are correct, you will not be able to file your return at this time due to a processing error that will be corrected on March 6, 2026. On or after this date, open the rejected return, review it for errors, and resubmit the return for electronic filing.
This error code that is causing my tax return to be rejected by the IRS ... if it happens more than 5 times will it cause me to have to submit my 2025 tax return by paper only for any return I want to file? I have two individual returns I need to file and I don't want TurboTax or IRS to force me to file paper returns. This is important as the second separate return I need to file also includes a 5695 energy credit.
Wait on filing any return containing Form 5695. You can sign up for updates here: Why am I getting address errors for my Home Energy credit when the address has already been added an...
To recap, my returns, like everyone else’s returns that included a form 5695 deduction, was rejected several times. Given that I have refunds coming from both federal and state I had no intentions of waiting until March 6 or March 7 or some time in the future when TurboTax finally got around to resolving the problem with correctly processing inputted and transmitted data from form 5695 to the IRS.
I resolved it by going to turbo tax, searching for the form 5695 and completed it manually using the IRS form 5695 instructions (available from the IRS). After completing the form manually, I had turbo tax re-check and verify that my returns were error free. I then re-transmitted both returns using eFile. Finally, both my federal and state taxes returns were accepted.
This should not have been a difficult fix and update by turbo tax. I am really surprised and frankly very disappointed that TT didn’t address and fix this. I’ve been using TT for years and this has given me pause about using them again in the future. My confidence in their product has definitely given me reason to question the accuracy of their software.
The IRS finalized the 2025 version of Form 5695 on January 29, 2026. Once a form is finalized by the IRS, it has to be coded into the special language the software uses and has to be thoroughly tested for calculations and e-filing acceptability. The IRS then has to approve it for e-file. It always takes a little longer for a form to become available for e-file in a software program. The dates are subject to change due to all that needs to be done.
