Part Year Resident CA part year resident NV

If an employer put all income listed as CA on a w2 how do you differentiate the income that was nonresident income to NV. Once a NV resident no work was performed in CA for six months. All work was in NV location once a NV resident. How do I back out the income sourced in NV from the W2 due to my residency in NV.

Did you ask the employer to correct the W-2 to correctly specify the income earned in each state ?

Enter your W-2 as is.  Then, on your part-year resident CA return, allocate to CA only the income you earned as a CA resident.  This will result in a refund of any excess CA withholding.

@TomD8

Tom is correct ... you can do the allocation yourself  however expect an audit letter from the state wanting you to explain and proove your position.
