Question

overcharged for filing

I paid $70 which I thought included 5 federal returns and 1 state return.  However, I was charged an additional $39.98 (19.99 each) for filing 2 state returns.  I understand the $19.99 for the second state return but should not have been charged for the first state return (19.99).  But, I suppose you live and learn..... But easy to complete tax forms and e-file.

Using the TurboTax Deluxe desktop editions or higher you receive one state program Download included in the purchase price.  It does not include one free state e-file.   The state e-file fee of $19.99 is for each state return e-filed.  This fee can be avoided by printing and mailing the state return.

Go to the TurboTax website for the desktop editions and click on the link 1 state download.  In the opened window scroll down and the fee for a state e-file is described - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download/

There was a price change from the early filer price of $19.99 to the standard price of $24.99 effective on March 1, 2020.

I bought the desktop Deluxe version which includes one state filing fee.  I am trying to file state returns in 2 states but being charged for both ($80).  I designate both states and am being charged for both when I should only be charged for one.

The second state program download is $40.  Do you want to have the 40 deducted from your federal refund?  There is an extra $40 Pay with Refund service charge for that.

And it is $20 to efile EACH state return including the first one.  So that might be the other $40 (20+20)

I  only wanted to have my federal and state tax computed and file by mail did want or need  an Audit to review my taxes with  Premium nor did I want to e-file the state tax and $178 was charged to my credit card.   I also did not get a copy of the receipt for the charge.  How do I get a refund?
