Yes, the IRS will use the account information on your 2018 return to deposit your Stimulus payment.
I did don't need to file taxes and entered by direct deposit info for the stimulus check and IRS accepted my return but it shows XXXXXX no direct deposit why even ask for direct deposit info if not gonna include it on the 1040?
I have a question...I have gone through the TurboTax Stimulus Portal. My wife and I normally file as MFS. She has already filed her MFS this year. As a stay at home dad, I am not required to file a return. When you try to proceed through the portal, it basically doesn't let you get very far as MFS. It's a dead end. TurboTax suggested i just proceed as "SINGLE". So, i did....(basically lying when it asks if I was married on Dec 31). It allows me to proceed and get to the final submission page. I just find it odd.....that there is a 1040 being submitted to the IRS that shows me as filing "SINGLE" rather than "MFS". Would this not trigger an audit? Just concerns me. I know the Turbo Tax rep says to do it as single rather than MFS, and in your comment you said it's not like filing a tax return.....but the fact a 1040 is being sent to the IRS.....i dont know. I cannot get myself to submit this as "SINGLE". Can you help explain or put me at ease?
This is what I have learned going through the Turbo Tax Stimulus Portal (for folks who don't need to file a tax return):
1. If you try to go through as Married Filing Separately, it simply does not allow you to do so.
2. When you call TurboTax, they tell you to file as "SINGLE" rather than "Married Filing Separately. Ummm....ok. That's comforting.
3. When you get to the final submission page (entering your direct deposit info, etc), it allows you to review your documents. Basically, a 1040 is getting sent to the IRS. If you are filing as Married Filing Separately, you are now sending a 1040 that shows you as filing as "Single". Yeah, that won't cause any issues....
4. The whole point of this Stimulus check registration is to provide the IRS with your direct deposit information to receive the Stimulus check faster. Well, when you review the 1040 that Turbo Tax is sending to the IRS, they don't even bother to include your direct deposit information that you filled out on the 1040. It is just left as XXXXXXX.
So in summary.....the IRS will receive a 1040 in my name. It won't allow me to file it as Married Filing Separately. And it doesnt even include my Direct Deposit Information. Can't wait to get an audit and no stimulus check! Yay!
Stimulus Edition filing rejected by IRS, so I'm told to retrieve a PDF and mail it in.
Your electronic stimulus submission was rejected. You'll need to print your submission and mail it to the IRS.
We'll include instructions of how to do this in your print out.
No instructions provided, and direct deposit fields filled with XXXX. Um... Thanks for nothing?
So I tried to file for the Stimulus payment and the IRS rejected it. I had very little income last two years so I didn't have to file. I entered the portal on the "If you don't need to file taxes this year". All the response I received from turbo tax was:
Your transmission didn't go through
We could not e-file your return for the following reason:
We're sorry, we have found errors in your return that prevent us from efiling. Please return to the "Review" tab to resolve these issues.
I don't even know what the issues are, I tried to return and found no "Review" tab. Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks in Advance.
These are known issues with the Stimulus Registration and TurboTax is actively working to solve them. We appreciate your patience and understanding. We will provide more instructions in the coming hours.
Ashley,
Please provide an update in this space if possible. I have spent days trying to figure this out, something that should have been/was supposed to be simple. If you could provide a detailed reply here when updates are available, it would be greatly appreciated by myself, and many others I am sure.
Thank you!
For those wondering about how TurboTax fee withholding will affect their stimulus payment, SBTPG has just released (mostly) good news from https://www.sbtpg.com/coronavirus-stimulus-payment-info/ (bold added by me):
The IRS will issue direct deposits to taxpayers that received a direct deposit.
An IRS-issued check will be mailed to taxpayers that received a check printed from their tax professional's office or a debit card issued through Santa Barbara TPG.
The IRS and Treasury Department are developing a website for taxpayers who are expecting a check, where they can provide their bank account information in order to receive their Economic Impact Payment by direct deposit. According to this message on the IRS website the IRS will notify taxpayers when more details are available. We will update this page when more information is available.
What does this mean?
I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask this, and if it isn't I'm sorry.
Anyways I wanted to know when you're supposed to file taxes by to get the stimulus check. I just filed my 2019 tax return yesterday, and I wanted to know whether or not that was too late.
The tax filing deadline has been extended to July 15, 2020, so you have filed on time. The IRS will use the information from your 2019 return to determine your stimulus payment. Please view this IRS link and check it often to stay informed on any updates.
WHATS going on folks is this....Like the previous thread a few weeks ago you COULD not e-file with Turbo Tax if you are on social security and do not need to file.....NOW, because the IRS is bucking the congressionally passed stimulus bill's conditions. OH, now, Turbo Tax and the IRS are partnered and as a senior citizen on social security you CAN e-file............its obvious, the IRS is your enemy, they do not feel that they have to obey what congress says. So, weeks ago, I had to paper file a 2019 tax return and I enclosed a check that has written on the check "VOID routing number and account number for stimulus check"....who wants to bet me that the IRS won't throw my voided check away....no takers....because the IRS is incompetent....I will update this thread...
See, the law says the IRS will use your 1099.....the IRS says we wont use your 1099 for the stimulus check unless we are forced to......so here is the way to e-file...use Turbo Tax....
I filed an injured spouse form for my taxes (due to my spouse owing child support) as I do every year. Will this apply to the stimulus package?
It should. The checks are an advance of a credit for 2020, therefore your half should be handled as your refundable credit.
You STILL do NOT need to file a return IF you are not required to file AND you have SS benefits.... that was reported incorrectly and the IRS changed that a few days later. What you did was NEVER suggested by any reliable source and that almost certainly be ignored and trashed.
What CAN be done for folks who do NOT have SS benefits AND are not required to file is use one of the registration options (my professional program has an option now) that are becoming available now ... HOWEVER those who do have to file and will file CANNOT use those options ... read the screenshot below carefully:
Those who have filed or who have not filed yet can use the IRS portal to update their DD info when they open it later this month. https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/economic-impact-payments-what-you-need-to-know
The vast majority of people do not need to take any action. The IRS will calculate and automatically send the economic impact payment to those eligible.
For people who have already filed their 2019 tax returns, the IRS will use this information to calculate the payment amount. For those who have not yet filed their return for 2019, the IRS will use information from their 2018 tax filing to calculate the payment. The economic impact payment will be deposited directly into the same banking account reflected on the return filed.
In the coming weeks, Treasury plans to develop a web-based portal for individuals to provide their banking information to the IRS online, so that individuals can receive payments immediately as opposed to checks in the mail.
Yes. The IRS will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 or Form RRB-1099 to generate Economic Impact Payments to recipients of benefits reflected in the Form SSA-1099 or Form RRB-1099 who are not required to file a tax return and did not file a return for 2018 or 2019. This includes senior citizens, Social Security recipients and railroad retirees who are not otherwise required to file a tax return.
Since the IRS would not have information regarding any dependents for these people, each person would receive $1,200 per person, without the additional amount for any dependents at this time.
