Get your taxes done using TurboTax
I have a question...I have gone through the TurboTax Stimulus Portal. My wife and I normally file as MFS. She has already filed her MFS this year. As a stay at home dad, I am not required to file a return. When you try to proceed through the portal, it basically doesn't let you get very far as MFS. It's a dead end. TurboTax suggested i just proceed as "SINGLE". So, i did....(basically lying when it asks if I was married on Dec 31). It allows me to proceed and get to the final submission page. I just find it odd.....that there is a 1040 being submitted to the IRS that shows me as filing "SINGLE" rather than "MFS". Would this not trigger an audit? Just concerns me. I know the Turbo Tax rep says to do it as single rather than MFS, and in your comment you said it's not like filing a tax return.....but the fact a 1040 is being sent to the IRS.....i dont know. I cannot get myself to submit this as "SINGLE". Can you help explain or put me at ease?
