Select your situation below.

If you used other tax software last yearSelect the method you used to file last year and use the onscreen help links and instructions to transfer your PDF and to change your filing status (single, married filing jointly, etc.) if different.
Keep in mind:
· The PDF needs to be your 1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ.
· The program accepts PDFs from a range of providers, such as:
·
o H&R Block, Credit Karma, TaxAct, ezTaxReturn, TaxSlayer, Liberty Tax/Tax Brain
We support a wide number of other providers and keep expanding our capabilities.
In certain situations, the program might not accept a PDF, such as when it’s password-protected, a scan of a hard copy rather than an electronic PDF, and certain other cases. If this happens, don’t worry, we’ll guide you through typing in your info.
If you used TurboTax CD/Download last yearYou can transfer last year's tax data file (.tax2017) if you're preparing your 2018 return online in TurboTax Live Basic, TurboTax Deluxe, TurboTax Live Deluxe, TurboTax Premier, TurboTax Live Premier, TurboTax Self-Employed, or TurboTax Live Self-Employed. (Free Edition, with or without PLUS, doesn't support transferring last year's .tax file.)
· You won't be able to transfer a PDF, it must be a .tax file.
Note: If you already started your 2018 return in TurboTax Online, transferring will clear any info you have already entered. Please keep in mind, a .tax file from a previous year will not transfer if the file is password protected.
Here's how to transfer:
You have to use TurboTax Online on your computer to do this transfer (it won’t work from a mobile device/mobile web, or in the mobile app).
1. Sign in to TurboTax Online and start a new return, or continue a return you already started by selecting the Take me to my return button.
2. After the screen has loaded, select the TaxTools drop-down menu in the left-hand column, and then select Tools.
3. In the pop-up window, select the Transfer last year's TurboTax return from your computer link. (If you don’t see this option, you may need to Clear & Start Over.)

The TurboTax desktop software can be installed any computers that you own. For 2019 the license is for 5 installs.
After nearly completing my 2019 taxes, I received a letter from the state (MN) changing some 2018 data. I corrected the data in my 2018 Turbo tax forms but now need to change the date in 2019. Is there a way to reload the (new) data without deleting all my 2019 work? Over ride didn't work. Thanks!
I load my new 2019 Turbotax and when I open it is 2018 software.
By the way - have used your product for several years - excellent

Are you sure it's not just asking for your 2018 return to transfer from? Did you have to enter the 14 digit License Code to activate it? If you did it's definitely 2019. The License Code is new this year.
Do you have the CD or install from a download?

Did you purchase a CD or download it from "My Downloads" ? Be sure you downloaded the correct year if there is more then one download in your account.
I purchased a 2019 Deluxe TurboTax from Costco... but when I downloaded the disc it as 2018.
Then when I downloaded using the license number [product key removed] I got the same 2018!!!

Maybe you are starting the wrong program? Go up to Help-About. Are you sure when you start it is not just asking for a 2018 return to transfer from? That sometimes confuses people. Did you go up to File-New return?
I started the program on the disc -also tried download. It is definitely a 2018 return disc.
I'll return to Costco

Can you verify the following license code is for tax year 2019? Sure looks like 2018

Has to be for 2019. The License Code is a new thing this year. 2018 didn't need a License Code.
