My wife and I both worked last year & we sent our 12 yr old, 10 yr old, and two 8-yr olds to gymnastics after school until we picked them up. Is this child care expense?

Yes, after-school programs are qualified child care costs you can claim using the credit. As long as the program is used as an alternative to day care, you can claim the fees.
