No Turbo Tax can't help. If his return rejected he can fix it and re send it. You probably have to fix it with Social Security. The IRS get the name from SS.
@donjbblackman and your son will have to paper file.
suggest calling social security. what is on your son's social security card?
Social Security provides the name, date of birth etc, to the IRS. When he files his tax returns, the IRS tries to match him up with the information they already have in the system from SS. If Social Security is spelling his name incorrectly, he must have Social Security make a correction in the system; then they will provide the correction to the IRS. Meanwhile, he may have trouble e-filing a tax return and will have to paper file.
Contact Social Security to sort this out.
If the return was filed successfully then make the fix next year ... FYI the IRS only looks at the first 4 letters of the last name ... the rest of it could be dead wrong or missing and the return will still process just fine.
If the return has been rejected then you can make the correction and resubmit the return. However if this was not your error, and the IRS is not accepting the name as written on your SS card then follow the advice in the prior answers to correct it at the source.
